Tea time is first thing in the morning at Buckingham Palace! Even queens need a morning pick-me-up, and Queen Elizabeth II is no exception to having an early morning necessity. The Queen eats breakfast every day at 8:30 a. m. with her husband, Prince Philip. But she doesn’t arrive on an empty stomach. In fact, Elizabeth treats herself with something before her morning bath every morning at 7:30.
Once-she’s up, Queen Elizabeth II enjoys a pot of hot Earl Grey, alongside some tea biscuits. Like most United Kingdom residents, she takes her tea without sugar, but doesn’t mind adding a little milk. You can, in fact, drink your tea like a royal (王室成员), because Her Majesty’s favorite brand of Earl Grey is available around the world.
Her tea is piping hot and poured from silver pots into a bone China cup for her to sip while she listens to the radio. If you can also enjoy a cup of tea in the morning, follow the example of the Queen and try making these tea cookies to eat before the most important meal of the day.
Once she’s digested her pre-meal treats, Queen Elizabeth II loves to enjoy Special K grain food and fruit for, her morning food and drinks. Yes, the Queen really does love the same brands that we commoners every day! You can check out other diets she loves.
This sounds like the perfect start to any day, to us! And we’re glad that the United Kingdom’s longest-serving ruler is taking a little bit of time for herself. Can’t you get enough other foods Queen Elizabeth II eats regularly. Ordinary people usually admire the members of the royal family and take great interest in their way life.
4 Which or the following best describes the tea the Queen drinks

Children at boarding school get the best night’s sleep, according to a recent study. Professor Kurt Lushington, a psychologist (心理学家) who led the study, said, “The experiment shows that the key to good sleep in teenagers is quite simple: a good timetable and no mobile devices at night.”
Over the past 20 years, the time children spent sleeping has fallen and only half regularly got more than seven hours. The recommended amount is eight to ten. The biggest problems are smartphones and tablets (平板电脑) whose blue light wakes the brain, making it harder to drop off.
An Australian team compared sleep patterns of 15-to 18-year-olds. The 59 boarders had to leave their phones in a kitchen area or on their desk before bed and turn their lights out by a set time. They slept for an average of 8 hours and 26 minutes a night compared with 7 hours and 46 minutes for day pupils.
Not enough sleep affects mental health and school performance and causes behavioral problems. It has also been connected with the overweight and other diseases. This year an American study found that teenagers who didn’t get enough sleep took in extra sugar during a school year. They ate sweets, cakes, chocolate and biscuits and drank fizzy drinks to promote their energy levels.
Lushington recommends that parents reach an agreement on not using a phone before bedtime. This is most likely to work if they do likewise and offer other enjoyments, such as reading books before sleeping. “I think if you put these rules in place, kids will go along-with them and have good sleep,” he told Now Scientist.
8. What is the key to teenagers getting good sleep
A. A fixed bedtime and lights out rule. B. More outdoor activities and exercise.
C. More leisure time and a relaxed bedtime. D. A regular schedule and no phone use at night
9. What does the underlined phrase “drop off” in paragraph ,2 mean
A. To fall asleep and rest. B. To give up and stop trying.
C. To calm down and relax. D. To fall behind and struggle.
10. What is the main idea of paragraph 4
A. The connection between sleep and health. B. The unhealthy diet caused by lack of sleep.
C. The poor academic performance of students. D. The negative effects or not getting enough sleep.
11. What does Lushington suggest
A. Sleeping longer to improve overall health. B. Limiting screen time and phone use at night.
C. Creating and following a good sleep routine. D. Adopting boarding school sleep habits at home.
D
We live in the age of the algorithm (算法). Increasingly, the decisions that affect our lives — where we go to school, whether we get a car loan, how much we pay for health insurance — are being made not by humans, but by mathematical models.
One application that has become particularly common is the use of algorithms to judge job performance. Sarah, a teacher who, despite being widely respected by her students, their parents and her colleagues, was fired because she performed poorly according to an algorithm. When an algorithm rates you poorly, you are immediately branded as an under-performer and there is rarely an opportunity to challenge against those judgments. In many cases, methods are considered secrets and no details are shared. And data often seems true.
As a matter of fact, the belief that school performance in America is getting worse is based on a data mistake. A Nation at Risk is the report that rang the first alarm bells about declining SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) scores. Yet if they had taken a closer look, they would have noticed that the scores in each smaller group were increasing. The reason for the decline in the average score was that more disadvantaged kids were taking the test. However, due to the data mistake, teachers as a whole were judged to be failing.
As we increasingly rely on machines to make decisions, we need to ask these questions: What assumptions are there in your model What hasn’t been taken into account How are we going to test the effectiveness of the conclusions Clearly, something has gone terribly wrong. When machines replace humans to make judgments, we should hold them to a high standard. We should know how the data was collected. And when numbers lie, we should stop listening to them.
12. Why was Saras fired from her job
A. She wasn’t respected. B. The algorithm rated her poorly.
C. She refused to use the algorithm. D. Her teaching performance declined.
13. Why did SAT scores decline in the U-6.
A. Students lacked motivation. B. The SAT became too difficult.
C. The SAT was poorly designed. D. More disadvantaged students took the test.
14. What should we do when using algorithms
A. Trust them completely. B. Test them thoroughly.
C. Ensure the data is accurate. D. Rely on human judgment.
15. What is the passage mainly about
A. Problems with algorithms. B. Advantages of algorithms.
C. Employers relying on algorithms. D. Application of algorithms in business.

Last week, my friends and I went to the Arts and Crafts Fair. There were so many interesting things to see. In the beginning, we had fun walking around tables full of various goods. But soon, we started to get discouraged.
I found a lovely hat, but it cost too much. Kaylie fell in love with a bunny toy, but it cost too much. And Jasmine surprised us with a little tricky toy, but looked at the price tag — it cost too much!
Just as we were about to give up, we came to a table with various beautiful bracelets (手镯). “These are so cool,” I said. “And look they’re in my price range!” Kaylie screamed.
Then, at the same moment, we all saw it! A bracelet with the most magical glassy pink elephant bead. It was the only bracelet like it on the table. “I saw it first!” said Kaylie. “I touched it first,” I said. “I think I did,” said Jasmine.
Nobody gave in. We all just stood there for what seemed like a trillion years, looking at each other. At last, the jeweler broke the silence, “I’m sorry. That’s the last one…”
But we were all so angry that we just left the bracelet and said we’d meet by the entrance in half an hour. Then we went off in our own separate directions. After wandering for a while, I decided I could use a little help to cool down, so I headed toward the ice-cream cart.

Good afternoon, everyone! Today, I’d like to share my story with music.
Since I was a child, music has been an important part of my life. I still remember the first time I played the piano — it was challenging, but I enjoyed the beautiful melodies. Over time, music became my way to express emotions and relax after a long day. One unforgettable experience was performing in my school’s talent show. Although I was nervous, the moment I started playing, I felt confident and happy. The applause at the end made me realize the power of music — it connects people and brings joy.
Music is not just a hobby; it is a friend that accompanies me through ups and downs. I believe that with music, life becomes more colorful and meaningful.
That’s all for my speech. Thank you very much for your time.!
第二节(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】Version 1
When I arrived, I discovered Kaylie and Jasmine were there too. They must have exactly the same thought as me. We hardly said a word while we waited in line. However, it turns out that it is impossible to stay mad when you are enjoying your favorite. As we each took a bite of our icy treats, the sweet and cold flavors seemed to take our bad mood away. Before long, we were talking again. We agreed that it was silly to fight over a bracelet. And Jasmine suggested that we go back and find out something else.
The jeweler was happy to see us again. “I was hoping you’d come back.” he said, holding up a tiny box full of perfect pink elephants. “If you’d like, I can sell you each one of these!” “That would be amazing.” I said. “I have such bends and string,” Jasmine said. “We can make our own bracelets together!” We thanked the jeweler and carried our treasure back excitedly. When there was only one best thing, walking away and taking a break worked well. Once we calmed down, we saw there was another way out, which proved a big surprise.
Version 2
When I arrived, I discovered Kaylie and Jasmine were there too. We stood there in silence, awkwardness filling the air. I even dared not look at them even though I had the desire to mend our friendship. However, as we each took a bite of our icy treats, the sweet and cold flavors seemed to take our embarrassment away. Desserts really had the power of magic. Before long, we were talking again. We all realized that it was silly and childish to fight over a bracelet. And Jasmine suggested that we go back and find out something else.
The jeweler was happy to see us again. “Did you girls come back for the bracelet ” he asked. “We decided to look for something else that we all like.” Kaylie and Jasmine said together. I could sense the sincerity in their voice, and I knew that they, like me, were eager to restore our harmony. The jeweler smiled warmly and showed us some new items. We spent time selecting together, sharing our thoughts and laughing. Finally, we each picked a different bracelet that suited us perfectly. As we left the stand, hand in hand, I knew our friendship had grown stronger.
