Luckily, the horses accepted me as a superior form of Yahoo and began to treat me kindly. The first thing they did was to teach me their language. As you know by now, dear reader, I am very good at languages. I soon learnt enough words to communicate quite well and I understood we were in Houyhnhnm Land.
The Houyhnhnms continued to be impressed by my wisdom and my clean and smart appearance. Many other Houyhnhnms came to visit me. All of them felt confused (困惑) because I was similar to the Yahoos. But I did my very best to show how different I was from these disgusting creatures (令人厌恶的生物).

You may think, dear reader, that my description of life in England and Europe was very unfair. But after living with the Houyhnhnms for some time, it became clearer to me how equal their society was. I felt I wanted to live in Houyhnhnm Land for the rest of my life. It was such a pleasant place.
Over time I even began to copy the appearance of the Houyhnhnms and made myself shoes like theirs. I was happy to live with the Houyhnhnms for the rest of my life but unluckily everything changed on one fatal day. The Houyhnhnms didn’t think it was right that I lived like a Houyhnhnm.

China’s Xiaomi, a well-known electronics company turned automaker, made headlines on Thursday by cutting the price of its luxury electric sedan, the SU7 Ultra, by 35%. The new price is 529,900 yuan ($72,931.72), down from the original 814,900 yuan. This move aims to compete with high-end brands like Tesla(特斯拉) and Porsche(保时捷) in the world’s largest car market.
The SU7 Ultra was first available for pre-orders in late October. However, CEO Lei Jun announced at the official launch in Beijing that the price was reduced after feedback from potential buyers. “Owners of cars like the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class were interested but found our initial price too high,” Lei explained. These cars typically cost between 500,000 and 600,000 yuan. “We want more people to afford luxury vehicles,” he added.
The price cut worked quickly. Xiaomi received 6,900 orders within 10 minutes after the event. The SU7 Ultra is designed to compete with models like Tesla’s Model S Plaid (priced at 814,900 yuan in China) and Porsche’s Taycan Turbo. It features premium materials, better seats, and high-quality audio systems compared to cheaper SU7 models. A limited-edition version remains at the original price, with undisclosed extra features.
To attract buyers, Xiaomi offers free lifelong access to its HAD intelligent driving system (worth 26,000 yuan) for orders placed before the end of March. Lei also criticized Tesla’s recent autopilot update in China, which costs over 60,000 yuan and disappointed many owners who felt it did not meet Elon Musk’s promises.
Xiaomi entered the electric vehicle (EV) market last year with the affordable SU7, which outsold Tesla’s Model 3 in late 2024. The SU7 Ultra’s price cut shows Xiaomi’s strategy to challenge top brands by offering luxury features at a lower cost.
34.What is the main purpose of Xiaomi’s price cut for the SU7 Ultra
A. To celebrate the car’s official launch.
B. To compete with luxury car brands like Tesla and Porsche.
C. To increase sales of cheaper SU7 models.
D. To test the market response to electric vehicles.
35. According to the passage, why did Xiaomi reduce the price of the SU7 Ultra
A. The car’s sales were poor.
B. Competitors like Tesla lowered their prices.
C. Potential buyers thought the original price was too high.
D. The company wanted to attract younger drivers.
36. What advantage does the SU7 Ultra have over cheaper SU7 models
A. Faster acceleration.
B. Better interior materials and audio systems.
C. Free maintenance for life.
D. More limited-edition features.
37. What can we infer about Tesla’s autopilot update from the passage
A. It was cheaper than Xiaomi’s HAD system.
B. It included full Autopilot and FSD systems.
C. It was popular among Chinese customers.
D. It required additional payment and disappointed users.

As the La Belle Riviere started sailing, the woman sat down with her baby. Haley said something to her. She became worried. “I don’t believe it.” Uncle Tom heard her say.
“Look here!” said Haley, showing her a document. “This says your master sold you. Your name is Lucy, isn’t it ”

“Master, please don’t talk to me now,” said the woman.
Uncle Tom went to sit with Lucy, and tried to comfort her, but she didn’t want to listen.
Night came and everybody went to sleep, but something woke Tom up at midnight. He saw something move quickly to the side of the boat. And he heard a splash (落水声) in the water. He got up and saw that Lucy, wasn’t there.

China’s Xiaomi, a well-known electronics company
turned automaker, made headlines on Thursday by cutting the
price of its luxury electric sedan, the SU7 Ultra, by 35%. The
new price is 529,900 yuan ($72,931.72), down from the
original 814,900 yuan. This move aims to compete with high-
end brands like Tesla(特斯拉) and Porsche(保时捷)
in the world’s largest car market.
The SU7 Ultra was first available for pre-orders in late
October. However, CEO Lei Jun announced at the official
launch in Beijing that the price was reduced after feedback from potential buyers. “Owners of cars like the
BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class were interested but found our initial price too high,”
Lei explained. These cars typically cost between 500,000 and 600,000 yuan. “We want more people to
afford luxury vehicles,” he added.
The price cut worked quickly. Xiaomi received 6,900 orders within 10 minutes after the event. The
SU7 Ultra is designed to compete with models like Tesla’s Model S Plaid (priced at 814,900 yuan in
China) and Porsche’s Taycan Turbo. It features premium materials, better seats, and high-quality audio
systems compared to cheaper SU7 models. A limited-edition version remains at the original price, with
undisclosed extra features.
To attract buyers, Xiaomi offers free lifelong access to its HAD intelligent driving system (worth
26,000 yuan) for orders placed before the end of March. Lei also criticized Tesla’s recent autopilot update
in China, which costs over 60,000 yuan and disappointed many owners who felt it did not meet Elon
Musk’s promises.

Later the trader Haley and his slaves (黑奴) started their journey on the Ohio River on a steamboat,
the La Belle Riviere. It was crowded with people on the deck.
One day, Haley went on business at a small town. Later the trader returned with a black woman. She
had a baby in her arms. She was smiling and wearing nice clothes with a large box.
As the La Belle Riviere started sailing, the woman sat down with her baby. Haley said something to
her. She became worried. “I don’t believe it.” Uncle Tom heard her say.
“Look here!” said Haley, showing her a document. “This says your master sold you. Your name is
Lucy, isn’t it ”
“He told me that I was going down to Louisville for a job as cook at the same restaurant where my
husband works,” said the woman. Then she became quiet, sat on her box, turned her back to the land and
stared at the river.
At Louisville, when Lucy got up to the side of the steamboat, hoping to see her husband, a man took
her baby and got off— he paid 45 dollars for the baby. When they left Louisville, Lucy returned to her seat
and found her baby was missing.
“Lucy,” said the trader, “you couldn’t take your child down south. I sold him to a very good family
that will take care of him better than you.”
Lucy sat down. She looked calm.
“I know it’s hard, at first, Lucy,” he started, “but you’re a clever lady and you’ll understand.”
“Master, please don’t talk to me now,” said the woman.
Uncle Tom went to sit with Lucy, and tried to comfort her, but she didn’t want to listen.
Night came and everybody went to sleep, but something woke Tom up at midnight. He saw something
move quickly to the side of the boat. And he heard a splash (落水声) in the water. He got up and saw that
