What can you do to help yourself get out of stress or worry If you’re an artist, you keep making art. And if you have never considered yourself an artist, now is the time to take up an artistic hobby such as drawing or painting. It is never too late to start. Everyone can do it. If you can hold a brush or crayon, you can create art.
Creating art heals (治愈) not only the mind and spirit but also the body since all of these are connected. As you draw or paint, your breathing slows, your blood pressure lowers, and your mind lets go of daily problems. This slowing down allows you to fully experience the moment. The process not only relaxes you but also brings a feeling of joy, increasing your energy and enthusiasm for life.
Making art also allows you to play, freeing you to find out and try out new materials and methods. It also lets you express pleasure by seeing beauty where others may not. Creating art provides you a special chance to express your anger or upset as well as your personal ideas.
Although the process of making art is the most important part, your finished product is important too. Your painting or drawing will remind you of the lessons you learned while making it, and you may feel energetic just by looking at it.
If you don’t know how to begin, here are some ways to start creating art. If possible, set aside a small table with your brushes and watercolours so you can get creative whenever you get inspiration (灵感). Without thinking much about it, just choose colours that you like and start painting with them, or cut pictures with those colours out of magazines and glue them down, combining (结合) them with paints. The act of enjoying the colours and working on the colour combinations will give you something to focus on instead of the stresses of your daily life.
29. What can you learn about making art from Paragraphs 2 and 3
A. It is good for our health. B. It causes high blood pressure.
C. It’s like playing games. D. It helps us solve daily problems.
30. What does the underlined word “enthusiasm” mean in Paragraph 2
A. 力量 B. 期待 C. 想象 D. 热情
31. Which of the following is NOT true about how to start making art
A. You must be very careful while choosing colours.
B. You can begin painting whenever you get inspiration.
C. You can get brushes and watercolours for preparation.
D. You may use magazines to make colour combinations.
32. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing the passage
A. To tell us how to be an artist. B. To introduce the history of art.
C. To encourage us to make art. D. To teach us how to choose colours.

On the subway, by the bus stop and even on the way, we often see people watching micro-dramas on apps like Kuaishou and Douyin. These dramas have been on the rise over the past few years. In 2023, micro-dramas made 37.39 billion yuan, equal to 70 percent of the money made by China’s film industry, reported China Daily on Sept 27.
Chinese micro-dramas are also going strong around the world. Sensor Tower, a US company, said that over 40 apps for watching the dramas have entered the global market. By early 2024, these apps already had around 55 million downloads. One of them, Reel Short, has been downloaded more times than Netflix on the Apple Store in the US, reported Reuters.
International viewers find these micro-dramas exciting to watch, reported Xinhua. The stories are usually fast-paced (快节奏的) and have many surprising turning points. “This keeps people’s attention and makes them fun,” Liu Jinlong, head of the app Short TV, told Xinhua.
The short length of the dramas adds to their popularity. Each episode (集) usually lasts for less than two minutes. People can finish a micro-drama in short periods of time. Also, most micro-dramas are filmed vertically (竖向地). This allows people to watch them without having to turn their phone screens.
However, one challenge to be addressed is that many of them have similar themes. “The dramas should include more topics, not just the usual ones like time travel,” Li Jiang, head of Dianzhong Tech, told China Daily.
33. How does the writer explain the popularity of micro-dramas
A. By writing reports. B. By giving numbers.
C. By raising questions. D. By showing pictures.
34. Which statement is correct according to the passage
A. Netflix wasn’t welcome among the American people.
B. The US company Sensor Tower has entered the global market.
C. Reel Short was downloaded many times on the Apple Store in the US.
D. Micro-dramas made as much money as China’s film industry in 2023.
35. According to Li Jiang, what can make Chinese micro-dramas more successful
A. Adding different topics. B. Centering on hot topics.
C. Making them more surprising. D. Improving the quality of videos.
36. What is the main idea of this passage
A. China’s film industry is on the rise in 2024.
B. Chinese video apps are popular all over the world.
C. Foreigners are becoming interested in Chinese culture.
D. Chinese micro-dramas are getting popular internationally.

One of the phrases which greatly puzzled (使……困惑) me was “entertaining angels (天使) unaware”. How could anybody be unaware of entertaining an angel I’ve never thought that angelic qualities could hide under very ordinary (平凡的) voices and in everyday bodies.
My angel, as it turned out, hid inside the little figure of my school teacher, Miss McKenzie. To me she was always a little old lady, with her grey hair framing a round rosy face and caught up in an old-fashioned bun (发髻) on top of her head.
Although I enjoyed Miss McKenzie’s approval (赞同), I never really felt very close to her. I had never asked her advice as to what I should do when I left school. Surely there was only one thing to do: Get a job and earn money as quickly as possible. But Miss McKenzie had other ideas. We in our house knew nothing of scholarships (奖学金) for fatherless children. The idea of a child from a working-class family going to college was the very thing of storybooks.
Unknown to us, she forced the headmaster to put my name forward for a special scholarship open to children who showed some promise, and who would receive further education. He agreed, although he was a bit worried about the cost of keeping me at college for a whole year, No earnings from me, and costs and clothes to be covered, for, of course, only the fees (学费) would be paid if I won.
Miss McKenzie brushed all argument (争论) aside. To this day I can remember my complete surprise when, on being asked if she felt I had any special qualities, this elderly teacher banged the desk with her hand, and declared (断言) in an American saying I never suspected she knew, “I’d stake (以……打赌) my bottom dollar on this girl!”
I shook at the passion (激情) in her voice, and at her trust in me. “What if I fail her ” I thought to myself. “What if she has to pay all the money back if I let her down ” I had a sense of responsibility (责任感) and I shouldn’t let her down.
The time at college went by quickly. At the end of my year at college I was able to lay before her the college gold medal as the year’s top student and a whole pile of awards.
And suddenly as I looked at her, and saw her eyes shining with pride behind the gold-rimmed glasses, I realized how widely she had thrown open the door of chance for me. And I knew for the first time what the phrase “entertaining angels unaware” meant. For there, standing before me in class, was my very own angel, Miss McKenzie.

Peking Opera, also called Jingju, listed by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, is the most important one among hundreds of forms of local operas in China. It began in the late 18th century and has a history of more than two hundred years.
Peking Opera which combines singing, dancing, acrobatics and martial arts is sung and recited using Beijing dialect. The music of Peking Opera plays a key role in setting the pace of the show, creating a particular atmosphere, shaping the characters, and guiding the progress of the stories.
The art form has spread to many other countries and is enjoyed all around the world. Many children in China receive training in Peking Opera classes or practise Peking Opera. However, some artists still worry that Peking Opera is challenged by new forms of entertainment like many traditional art forms. They are trying to do something for Peking Opera.
Tao Qingmei, a traditional arts scholar at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, co-wrote the book The Marvelous Game with Guo Baochang. Guo, a film director, is a Peking Opera fan who has loved Jingju since he was a kid. It has been his long time wish to write a book on Peking Opera.
The boy on the new book cover is Guo Baochang’s grandson. Guo and his grandson are playing a game by dressing up in roles from the classic Peking Opera piece, Shuang Bei Deng, which is a comedy. Tao and Guo spent years writing the book because they wanted to make it easy and fun for everyone. They hope young people will get to know more about Peking Opera and fall in love with it.
Peking Opera is regarded as an expression of the aesthetic ideal of operas in the traditional Chinese society and remains a widely recognized element of the country’s cultural heritage. What I have learned in English class
I have really learned a lot from my English lessons. First, I have learned much about different art forms like dramas, films, paintings, music and so on. Of all the music, I like Tan Dun’s music best. Although Dan usually makes music with common objects like paper and water, his music can create amazing pictures in my mind. Tan Dun’s music is to dream without boundaries.
Beijing is the capital of China. During winter vacation, I once traveled to Beijing and watched the raising of the national flag in the early morning. Then, I went to taste Beijing duck and enjoyed Beijing Opera.
This summer vacation, I want to travel to India. Because India is the second most population country and has many famous places of interest. Taj Mahal is one of the wonders of the world, and I want to see it with my own eyes.
It’s really important to learn English well. It’s not only a tool to understand the outside world but also a key to open up a world.
