Zhang Shuzhen was born in 1937 in Taikang County, Henan Province. She is known as the “tea grandma”. She got such a name because she spent her whole life achieving the great project of “moving tea from South to North”, which benefited several generations (几代人).
In the autumn of 1961, Zhang graduated from university and went to work in the mountains in Shangnan County, Shaanxi Province. She once worked hard in the mountains for more than 70 days, which made her wear out more than 20 pairs of straw sandals (草鞋).
Most of the suitable areas for tea plants are south of 30 degrees north latitude (北纬). However, Shangnan County lies at 33 degrees north latitude. There was no tea planted by hand in Shangnan before, but Zhang once saw old wild tea trees in the county. This encouraged her to try tea planting. In 1962, she began to plant tea, but ended in failure for four years in a row. However, she didn’t give up. She wasn’t able to harvest 1.9 kg tea leaves until 1970. This showed that it would be possible to grow tea in Shangnan. Under the influence of Zhang, the villagers began to follow her to plant tea. By 1975, 36 tea farms had been built in Shangnan, reaching more than 20,000 mu of tea gardens. Zhang also gathered (召集) many tea traders to work together and solved the biggest problem of that time—selling tea leaves.

Bees are always busy. Every bee has a job to do and a place to go. In each hive (蜂巢), there are three kinds of bees: the queen bee, the worker bee, and the drone (雄蜂).
The queen bee is the most important bee in the hive. Her job is to lay eggs. She lays about 2,000 eggs every day! The eggs will hatch into (孵化成) new worker bees, drones, and queen bees. Some worker bees work inside the hive. They feed the queen bee and the drones. They also take care of the queen bee’s eggs. Other worker bees work outside the hive. They guard the doors of the hive. They collect pollen and nectar (花蜜) from flowers and bring them back to the hive for all the bees to eat. The drones, also known as the male bees, are the fathers of the queen bee’s eggs. Drones don’t do anything else. The worker bees feed the drones. There are usually only a few hundred drones in a hive.
Bees have long tongues to get nectar from flowers. They collect the pollen on their back legs as they walk around inside each flower.
Sometimes there are too many bees in a hive. Then a queen bee leads some bees out to start a new hive. A group of bees looking for a new home is called a swarm (分蜂群). Swarms might hang on nearby tree branches while worker bees look for a place to build a new hive.

Maps show where things are. Some maps show cities and some show the stars. Here I will introduce another kind of map, the Nature-in-the-Round map. It will show you the beauty of nature in your own area.
To create a Nature-in-the-Round map, you’ll need a piece of paper, a black pencil and some colored pencils or crayons. First, you should draw a large circle (圆) on the paper. Then cut it out. Next, draw a small picture of yourself in the center of the circle. Then take the paper and pencils outside and sit in the middle of an open area.
There are four kinds of the Nature-in-the-Round map. They are the sight map, the travel map, the sound map and the seasonal map.
The sight map
Now look around you. Draw everything that you see around you, including plants, insects and rocks——every natural thing you see. When you finish your picture, head back indoors and color your picture to complete the map. Write when and where your map is created.
The travel map
The next time you visit a park, a forest, a beach, or any other natural place, draw a map to help you remember your visit.
The sound map
Close your eyes and listen to the natural sounds around you. When you hear something, open your eyes. Draw what you hear, like a singing bird or a flowing river.
The seasonal map
Discover how nature changes from season to season. Sit in the same place to create a map during each season of the year.
60.What does a Nature-in-the-Round map show
A.The location of things.
B.Cities.
C.The stars.
D.The beauty of nature in your own area.
