Our eating habits are very important for good health and a strong body. There are times when most of us like eating sweets and ice cream better than vegetables and rice. Sweets and ice cream are not bad for us if we eat them at the end of a meal. But if we eat them before a meal, they may take away our appetite (胃口). It’s important for us to have each meal at a regular time every day. When we feel worried or excited, we may not want to eat. A long time ago some judges in England often decided whether a man was telling the truth by giving him some dry bread to eat. If the man could not swallow the bread, it meant that he was not telling the truth. Though this seems strange, the judges thought it was a good way of finding out the truth. Charlie Condell, the round-the-world cyclist
“I am going to cycle around the world! I wish to become the youngest person to do so!”
Charlie Condell posted this message on his Facebook page at the beginning of last year.
Early last July, the 18-year-old left his home in Bristol, England, and started his bike trip around the world.
To set a round-the-world biking trip record, a person must travel in one direction (方向) and start and end in the same place. He or she must travel the distance around the world — 40,072 kilometers. The person is allowed to fly and take boats, but most of the trip must be completed on a bike.
Charlie didn’t have anyone travelling with him to help him. He carried his own gear and camped out most nights.
The cyclist recorded his trip on a website. The pictures and notes he posted show a young man having the time of his life.
However, the biking trip was hard. Charlie had to deal with rain, wind and flat tires. What’s more, his bike and all his gear were stolen in Australia. After Charlie wrote about this on the website, offers of help poured in. He soon had new clothes and a new bike and was on his way again.
Charlie says the trip taught him patience and gave him confidence. “There’s very little that truly frightens me anymore,” the cyclist adds.
On March 11, Charlie returned to Bristol, England. He completed the trip in just 248 days. The young cyclist made his wish a reality.

For example. you could say, “Those roses look really beautiful, don’t they ” In addition (此外), British people love their pets very much, so it’s also nice to start with “What a lovely dog! What is his name ”
In America, people like to talk about sports, such as American football. They also talk about clothes by saying “It’s a nice shirt! Where did you get it ” And the weather is a safe topic there, too. Of course, there are also a lot of topics to avoid (避免). during small talks in Western countries. For example, don’t ask people “How old are you ”, especially (特别) women. And never ask “How much money do you make ” It makes people unhappy and it’s also impolite.
