六、 阅读理解
Elderly people around the world all have their own special hobbies. In China, I often see elderly women dancing together in public squares or playing mahjong(麻将). Old men like to get together and play Chinese chess. Light exercise is also popular. I once saw an elderly person walking backward while clapping(拍手) her hands as a way of exercising.
In the US, elderly people don't play mahjong. Instead, they play cards. Like mahjong, card games are a great way to meet new people and have fun. Elderly people are often lonely - but hobbies like playing cards can bring friends together.
Elderly people in the US also enjoy gardening and baking(烘焙). Grandmothers like baking sweetsnacks, such as cookies or muffins(松饼), for their grandchildren. Gardening gives them a chance to get a little bit of exercise and fresh air, as well as grow vegetables and fruit to cook with. And of course, gossiping(闲聊) with their elderly friends is popular as well.
