①Zhang Guimei, a teacher in the mountainous area of Yunnan, set up a free high school for girls with support from the Communist Party of China(中国共产党) and local government. Around 2,000 girls from poor families who went to the school went on to study at various universities. In the past 10 years, the Party of China and government have worked hard to make sure all children can receive an education. One way to help fill the educational gap(差距) between urban and rural areas is the use of 5G and other new technologies.
②Guizhou Normal University has worked with Huawei to set up a “5G+ rural education” laboratory and taught “5G+ rural education” courses online. English, music, art, science, biology, and other high-quality courses were provided to rural schools in the area through the platform(平台). Do you wear glasses If yes, would you like to have surgery(手术) so you don’t need to wear them anymore Many believe that surgery can fix the problem forever, but that’s not always the case(总是如此).
Most people wear glasses because of nearsightedness (近视). When we see things, light comes into our eyes and focuses (聚焦) on the retina (视网膜). But for people with nearsightedness, in their eyes, light focuses in front of the retina. This makes things far away blurry(模糊的) but close things clear.
Surgery can treat this. Xu Jiayi, a 19-year-old student from Beijing, had the surgery five months ago during the winter vacation. “After the surgery, I can see very clearly. Life is more convenient without having to wear eyeglasses,” said Xu. However, the process (过程) is not as easy as you might think. Xu said that her eyes hurt badly right after the surgery. Also, she needed to use medicine for at least three months. “At first, there were four types of medicines, then the number became six, she said. These medicines help the eye heal(康复) and prevent eye problems.
Moreover, if you don’t look after your eye health well, nearsightedness may return even after surgery. “Because I use my eyes too much both at work and at home, things have started to look blurry to me again,” said Du Anni, 32, who had the surgery nine years ago.
Instead of fixing nearsightedness, “the surgery just lets you ‘take off your glasses’” said Wei Wenbin from the Beijing Tongren Hospital in a speech in July. He said that the surgery doesn’t fix the changes in the eye’s structure(结构).

A 17-year-old girl Xu Zhuoyuan got to the top of the highest peak in Africa on January 1, 2024. Xu’s mountaineering journey began on a family trip to Xizang and Sichuan four years ago. Passing by the mountains in Sichuan, she felt drawn to their beauty. So she decided to try climbing them. For the next few years, Xu did hard training. She climbed peaks over 5,000 meters and did physical exercises every day. All that hard work got her ready for the big challenges she would face on Kilimanjaro.
Above 4,000 meters on Mount Kilimanjaro, the climate (气侯) is similar to a desert, with big temperature differences. The whole climb took seven days, during which Xu faced unpredictable weather such as rain and strong winds. Staying warm and avoiding heat loss were the main challenges. Xu had to keep an eye on the temperature and change her clothes when the temperature changed. This climb was also a learning experience for Xu. She was climbing with Xia Boyu, the first Chinese climber to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma with a prosthetic (假肢的)leg. He was almost 74 years old, but was still pushing on despite(尽管) having bloodied legs from his prosthesis. She was deeply inspired(深受鼓舞的) after seeing Xia’s bloodied legs.
