“BANG!” the door closed heavily. My father was standing on one side and I on the other side.
We were 31 in great anger. “Never set foot in this house again!” my father shouted. With tears, I rushed out and ran along the street.
I walked around and around. A young father who held a child in his arms walked 32 me. I felt as if I saw my childhood---happy and peaceful.
But now... I don’t know 33 it is because I have grown up or because my dad is getting old. We have different thoughts. Whenever I do something wrong, he never accepts it. We are just like two people 34 from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.
My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. As I walked on, there were 35 people on the streets, until I had only the street lights to be with me. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived, I saw the light was still on.
I 36 to myself, “Is father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me ” In fact, it was 37 . Perhaps, dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. I 38 stand his outrageous(蛮横的)words, “I can throw you away, let alone these old stamps.”
All the lights were off except 39 . Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed any kindness or any moments of 40 , which might a little bit make me feel better. This was how he always was. He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature.
At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened it, tears ran down my face. I suddenly realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us was not there. Love is second to none

A study in 2021 found that only 20% of teachers thought that homework and marking were necessary for learning. Many parents think homework interrupts(阻碍)family life and causes stress to everyone, when probably the time would be better spent relaxing together.
There is not much evidence(证据)that homework helps primary school pupils--although some studies show it leads to better results at high school.
Since 2012, it has been left up to headteachers to decide whether their students should be given homework, and how much. What do you think---does homework help you learn or should be left at school
① to have homework 1. You spend enough time studying at school---evenings and weekends should be for doing hobbies and relaxing with family. 2. Homework can be stressful for busy families. Homework means you can go over what you have learnt in class so that you know it really well and do better in your exams. It also means more topics can be covered during term time. 2. It teaches you to work on your own and to be disciplined and organized, which are good skills for life. 3. Homework allows your parents to know your education, find out how you are doing and support you.
Now, you have read a bit about it. Tell us what you think by voting in our poll at the week junior. co.uk/polls. Vote YES if you think homework should be banned (禁止) or NO if you don’t. We will show it to you next week.

My shadow
By Robert Louis Stevenson, 1850-1894
I have a little shadow
that goes in and out with me,
And what can be the use of him
Is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me
from the heels up to the head;
And I see him jump before me
when I jump into my bed.
The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow---
Not at all like proper children, which is aways very slow;
For he sometimes shoots up taller like an India rubber ball
And he sometimes gets so little that there’s none of him at all.
He hasn’t got an idea of how children should play,
And can only make a fool of me in every sort of way.
He stays so close beside me, he’s a coward(胆小鬼)you can see;
I’d think shame to stick to nursie as that shadow sticks to me!
One morning, very early, before the sun was up,
I rose and found the shinning dew(露珠)on every buttercup;
But my lazy little shadow, like an completely sleepy head,
Had stayed at home behind me and was fast asleep in bed.

The best tool you use in communicating with parents is to keep talking to them, no matter what it is about. Strong relationship depends heavily on keeping the lines of communication open. Try to talk about everyday things with your parents. That doesn’t mean telling them everything. In fact, turn the focus onto them for a change: Ask about their day---just as they do with you.
Jim, 15, is a junior school student. One day, after he said that he was thinking of trying out for the school play, his mom kept asking about it for weeks. Instead of telling her how he felt, Jim decided it would be easier not to tell her anything he was doing in the future.
A good way to get parents to ask fewer questions is to offer some information on your own. This puts the communication in your hands. The more you tell them about everyday things, the less they will municating everyday things has another advantage: It can show your parents that you are responsible enough to make good decisions. Though it won’t be easy, do not give up. The parents need time to get used to it as their kids become independent. To many parents, they believe their years of experience put them in a better position to make decisions. If you think your parents are like that, talk to them about it.

As a student in Grade 9, I think we should try our best to enter a good high school. We’d better study harder than we used to. During the class, we must listen to the teachers carefully and take good notes. We should also finish our homework on time. As we know, failure is the mother of success, so we shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes, instead. We need to learn from our mistakes. It is important to ask more questions and think more. Besides, we must develop good learning skills.
To fight for our dream, we should make study plans first, then keep going on and never give up. I sincerely hope we all can enter our dream school.
