1970 was the “ Would Conservation Year ”. The United Nations wanted everyone to know that the world was in danger. They hoped that governments would act quickly in order to conserve(保护)nature. Here is one example of the problem. At one time there was 1300 different kinds of plants, trees and flowers in Holand , but now only 866 remain. The others have been destroyed by modern man and his technology. We are changing the earth. the air and the water, and everything that grows and lives here. We can’t live without these things. If things continue like this , we shall destroy ourselves.
What will happen in the future Perhaps it is more important to ask , “What must we do now ” The people who will be living ing the world of tomorrow are the young of today. A lot of them know that conservation is necessary. Many are helping to save our world. They plant trees , build bridges across rivers in forests and so on. In a small town in the United States , a large group of girls cleaned the banks of 11 kilometes of their river. Young people may hear about conservation through a record called NO ONE’S GOING TO CHANGE OUR WORLD. It was made by the Beatles and other singers. The money from it will help to conserve animals.

Have you ever heard of e-waste, which can be produced every day How do you deal with your computers, MP4 players and mobile phones when they’re broken or you want a new one
Most people just throw them away. With the development of electric industry, e-waste pollution has become a serious problem. According to the United Nations, in 2014, people around the world produced 41.8 million tons of e-waste and only recycled 6.5 million tons. The US was the biggest waster, producing 7.1 million tons. China came second, with 6 million tons.
It’s important to pay attention to e-waste. It can either be valuable or harmful, depending on how we deal with it. E-waste is a valuable urban mine. The value of the metals, like gold and silver in the waste around the world, is amazing. And the metals can be reused. But if people throw them away, the toxic chemicals can get into the earth or air, effecting the environment and people’s health.
Apple, for example, now recycle people’s used products in China when they are buying new ones. The company will test and repair the used ones and sell them at lower prices. To help reduce e-waste, we can also take computers and phones to see if companies offer recycling programs.
1.How many tons did the people around the world produce e-waste in 2014
A. 6.15 million tons B. 7.1 million tons
C. 41.8 million tons D. 6 million tons

Recently, China announced it had achieved success in drilling fire ice or methane hydrate(天然气水合物,即可燃冰), from the seabed in the Shenhu area of the South China Sea. It produces high amount of energy when it is burned, leaving nothing but dioxide and water.
Many countries, including the United States and Japan, have long been doing research on methane hydrate, but taking it from bottom of the sea has been a common problem they are facing. According to reports, China succeeded in drilling methane hydrate for a number of days continuously and got an average of over 16,000 m daily. It is believed to be a big breakthrough.
Scientists say there is about 21,000 trillion (万亿 ) m of methane hydrate in the world. If we can use it, it can meet the world’s energy need for 1,000 years. However, it is too early to say a new energy source (来源 ) has been found because we are still facing two main challenges ——environmental risk and economic (经济的) cost. When methane hydrate is taken from the seabed, it may go into the air easily. That’s very bad for the environment because methane is one of the worst greenhouse gases. Besides, drilling methane hydrate is very expensive as well.
However, China’s technology breakthrough is very important because it shows the way researchers across the world should take. It also raises hopes that one day we can drill methane hydrate as a source of energy.
1. What is the first paragraph mainly about
A. China is producing a large amount of energy from fire ice.
B. China is making good use of fire ice throughout the country.
C. China has already succeeded in drilling fire ice from the seabed.
D. China has turned fire ice from the South China Sea into daily energy.
2. What’s the common problem many countries are facing when doing research on fire ice
A. How to take it out from the bottom of the sea.
B. How to turn it into useful energy at the lowest cost.
C. How to make it cheap on the future energy market.
D. How to change it into a traditional form of energy.
3. Why is it too early to say a new energy source has been found
A. Because it’s too difficult to find the place where the fire ice lies and how to drill it.
B. Because it’s not easy for fire ice to go into the air and be good for the environment.
C. Because it’s quite impossible for fire ice to take the place of other sources of energy.
D. Because it’s expensive to drill fire ice and it may do great harm to the environment.
4. How much methane hydrate is there in the world according to the passage
A. Over 16,000 m3 daily. B. About 2l,000 trillion m3.
C. Energy need for 1,000 years. D. A number of days.
5. Where can we probably read the article
A. In a storybook. B. In a newspaper.

Noise pollution is doing much harm to our health now. Noise is a kind of invisible killer. More and more students enjoy listening to music very much. When they listen to MP3 players, they like to turn up the volume (音量) .While watching TV,they keep the volume high. But they haven’t realized that the noise is weakening their hearing. In fact, the noise not only influences each member in the family, but also influences the neighbors around.
Noise pollution is a source of misery to people in our society. If people are often disturbed by it,they may feel uncomfortable or sad. What’s worse, the noise can drive people mad sometimes. If a worker works in a printing factory for too long,he will lose his hearing much faster than a common person who works in a quieter environment. So everybody must pay attention to noise pollution.
The following simple ways can be used to avoid noise:
★ Try to use noisy equipment less.
★ Keep the volume of TVs,radios and MP3 players as low as possible, especially late at night.
★ If your dog barks when left alone, make sure to leave it with a friend.
★ If you have a party, tell your neighbors in advance and keep the noise a little lower.
I think the local environment protecting department should take measures to control the noise levels. Meanwhile it’s everybody’s duty to keep a quiet environment.
1. Why do people call noise a kind of invisible killer
A. Because we can’t see it with our own eyes.
B. Because it’s harmful to our health, but we don’t realize it.
C. Because it often causes people to die.
D. Because it has no direct effect on humans.
2. The underlined word "misery" means " ___ ”.
A. enjoyment B. worry C. pleasure D. suffering
3. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage
A. Listening to MP3 players in high volume may do harm to your hearing.
B. Everybody has a duty to keep a quiet environment.
C. We should never use noisy equipment.
D. Noise is a kind of unwanted sound.
4. We can see this passage in a magazine about ___ .
A. science B. geography C. environment D. fashion
5. What is the best title for this passage
A. Kinds of pollution B. Noise pollution C. Hearing loss D. Our health

Ask someone what they have done to help the environment recently and they will almost mention recycling. Recycling in the homes is very important. However, having to recycle often means we already have more products than we need. We are just dealing with the results of that over-consumption in the greenest way, but it would be much better if we did not bring so many goods home.
The total amount of packaging(外包装)has increased by 12% between 1999 and 2005. It is 1/3 of a home’s waste in the UK. In many supermarkets, food products are packaged twice with plastic and paper. Too much packaging is doing serious damage to the environment. The UK, for example, is running out of land because of this unnecessary waste. If such packaging is burnt, it gives off greenhouse gases which go on to cause the greenhouse effect. Besides, the plastic from the package puts some creatures in danger, especially birds and fish.
Recycling helps, but the recycling itself uses energy. The solution is not to produce such waste in the first place. Food waste is a serious problem, too. Too many supermarkets encourage customers to buy more than they need. However, few of them have the idea that this cannot continue. For example, supermarkets should encourage customers to reuse their plastic bags.
But this is not just about supermarkets. It is about all of us. We have been used to the idea that packaging means excellence while anything unpackaged is of poor condition. This is especially true of food. But this idea has spread to other products, which often have far more packaging than necessary.
There are signs of hope. As more of us recycle, we are beginning to realize just how many unnecessary goods are collected. We need to face the waste of our consumer culture, but we have a mountain to climb.

A. Using too much packaging.
B. Recycling too many wastes.
C. Buying more products than needed.
D. Making more products than necessary.
2.Which of the following damage of over packaging is NOT mentioned
A. It may waste land.
B. It may pollute the food.
C. It may do harm to the living things.
D. It may make the green house effect worse.
3. According to the passage, which of the following is true about recycling
A. It leads to a waste of land.
B. It means burning packaging for energy.
C. It is the only solution to the greenhouse effect.
D. It helps reduce the harm caused by too much packaging.
4. Why do people prefer packaged products
A. Supermarkets encourage them.
B. People care more about packaging.
C. It is necessary for all the products to have package.
D. People think unpackaged products are of poor condition.
5.What does the writer tell us in the last paragraph
A. Fighting waste is difficult.
