①Workers in Canada have made an exciting discovery. Machine operator Shawn Funk was digging through the earth when he noticed something much harder than the rock around it. “It was definitely nothing we had ever seen before,” said Funk.
②A local museum now displays Funk’s discovery. It looks like a piece of art, but it’s not. It’s a fossilized (石化的) dinosaur—one of the most amazing ever found!
③After 110 million years underground, it has turned to stone, from its snout (长鼻子) to its hips. Armor (硬壳) covers its neck and back. Two 50-centimeter spikes stick out from its shoulders. Fossilized skin and scales (鳞) cover its body. Caleb Brown, a researcher at the museum, is amazed by the quality of the fossil (化石).“We don’t just have a skeleton (骨架). We have a dinosaur as it would have been.”
④For paleontologists, a find like this is very rare. Usually, only the bones and teeth are preserved—softer parts like the skin and scales rarely get fossilized. The dinosaur is so well preserved (保护) it even has a little bit of its original color. But why is this dinosaur fossil so different Scientists have a theory.
⑤They think that the dinosaur’s carcass was carried into a river by a flood. It reached the sea, and after a week or so, the carcass sank to the ocean floor. Mud covered it and entered its skin, armor, and bones. After millions of years, this made the creature’s body stonelike.
⑥Scientists have studied the fossil carefully, but it will take years to learn all its secrets. Its bones, for example, are under its skin and armor, and paleontologists need to find a way to reach them without destroying (毁坏) its body. In some ways, this dinosaur is almost too well preserved!

During the past seven years, I visited countries that were in need of clean water. And I met some of the most inspiring (鼓舞人心的) people I’ve ever known.
By the time I reached my first village in Mozambique (莫桑比克), a small crowd had already gathered around the water point to meet me. These people were eager to talk about the difference clean water had made in their community.
At the front of the crowd, I met Natalia, a 15-year-old girl. Access to (获得) clean water enabled (使能够) her to have better health. She could spend more time in school. As a result, she became better educated than many of her fellow villagers.
I asked Natalia’s mother what she expected of her daughter’s future. “My dream is for Natalia to become a teacher,” she said proudly. Natalia happened to hear our conversation. And she turned around to say, “I don’t want to be just a teacher. I want to be the headteacher.”
Many people I met in Mozambique told me that water is life. Having access to clean water would immediately improve health. Healthier families would save money on hospital bills. Healthier kids would spend more time in school. Like Natalia, they would have bigger dreams as well as better opportunities.
Yet 748 million people on this planet don’t have access to clean water. Every morning, they stand in line in front of a muddy hole in the ground. They carry dirty water all the way home and serve it to the people they love most. They keep suffering from stomach pains.
You and I just got lucky to be born in places where we’ve never had to worry about finding clean water.

故填is considered/regarded as an important tool。
48.are worth visiting##are worth a visit
故填are worth visiting/a visit。
49.is of great value##is very valuable
【详解】根据中英文对照可知,空处应填“有很大价值”,可以用be of great value表示,也可以用be very valuable表示,形容词作表语。句子是一般现在时,主语是不可数名词,be动词用is。故填is of great value/is very valuable。
50.directed by a famous director##that was directed by a famous director##which was directed by a famous director
故填(that/which was) directed by a famous director。
51.would rather tell the truth##prefer to tell the truth rather
【详解】根据中英文对照可知,would rather do A than do B和prefer to do A rather than do B都表示 “宁愿做A而不愿做B”;tell the truth“说实话”。故填would rather tell the truth /prefer to tell the truth rather。

57.例文
I am glad to share about my favourite artist. My favourite artist is Da Vinci. He is one of the greatest painters in history.
Da Vinci was born in Italy. He showed an interest in painting when he was very young. As a little child, he often painted for his neighbourhood and all his neighbours praised him for his wonderful paintings.
As Da Vinci grew older, he moved to a big city with his father and learnt art there. To draw a perfect egg, he spent three years drawing the same egg. He kept practising and finally succeeded. Many years later, he finished the world-famous painting Mona Lisa. The woman’s smile was so attractive that it became the most popular painting in the museum.
In my opinion, Da Vinci not only had a gift for painting but also worked hard to achieve his art dream. I like playing the piano and I want to be a musician in the future. I will practise harder and follow my dream.
