Last year, I went to Italy as an exchange student. Before leaving, I asked my mother what gifts I should take to the teachers and the students there. Mom said that the Chinese fan was a good choice, for China is praised as “the Fan Kingdom”. I couldn’t agree more, because it is more than a tool for cooling. It’s also an important part of Chinese culture.
I went shopping and bought three kinds of Chinese fans. The first kind was the feather(羽毛) fan for the teachers, which was made of bird feathers. It was the symbol of Zhuge Liang, a very smart man in ancient China. The fans I bought for the girls were silk fans. Fans of this kind were made of silk with paintings of beautiful women, birds or flowers. They were very popular with women of all ages. As for the boys, I picked the folding fans from Rongchang, a place in the west of Chongqing. The folding fans were made of paper and bamboo and there were great paintings
and calligraphy(书法) on them.
At the welcome party in Italy, my new teachers and classmates were all excited to get the wonderful fans. And they were even more excited after learning about the stories and culture behind them.

Do you have the experience of taking music lessons against your wishes Perhaps you have complained about it because you thought it took you much playtime. But now you’d better thank your parents for their time and money spent on your musical training. A recent study suggests music lessons can make children have better memories than their peers (同龄人).
The Canadian study showed that after one year of musical training, children did better on a memory test than those who didn’t take music lessons. The researchers made the children aged between 4 and 6 into two groups—one group of children took music lessons outside school, and the other didn’t take any musical training. In one year, they took four tests in different times. The results showed brain development changes at least every four months. The children taking music lessons not only did better in musical listening but also made faster progress in other ways, such as

Did you know that vocabulary is more important than grammar If you have good vocabulary, you can communicate successfully, even if the grammar is not completely perfect.
However, one common problem is learning new words and then forgetting them. So when you want to use a new word in a conversation, you can’t remember it at that moment. Does this often happen to you The reason for this difficulty is that most students try to learn vocabulary by studying lists and dictionaries and remembering the words. But it may not work if you don't have a very good memory.
The best way to learn vocabulary and remember the words successfully is to learn new words and use them at once. You can do this with a very simple exercise. Every time you learn a new word, for example, from an English lesson or an article, write it down in your vocabulary notebook. Writing is more active than just reading a definition. You should write the word, the definition in English or translation, one example sentence from the article or dictionary and one example sentence that you create.
Imagine you just learn the word “generous”. Write in your vocabulary notebook: generous (adjective), definition—giving or willing to give freely. Example one, from the article: Thanks for paying for my dinner. You ’re very generous. Example two, my example: My brother is generous because he volunteers at the animal shelter on weekends. It’s best if your example sentences are true to your life, because this creates a personal connection with the new word. The next day, read your vocabulary notebook again and try to add one more example sentence using the new word.
It’s helpful for you to remember it. These two simple steps—writing the word and using it at once—help you remember and use new words.
Do you have a vocabulary notebook If not, start now.
47.What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 refer to
A. The problem. B. The new word. C. The conversation. D. The dictionary.
48.What’s the correct order of the following steps of taking vocabulary notes
①Make your own example sentence.
②Write the word, its English definition or translation.
③Copy an example sentence from the article or dictionary.
④Read your notebook again and add one more example sentence.
A.②③①④ B.②③④① C.③④②① D.③②①④
49.How can we make the best example sentences according to the writer
A. By asking for help from friends. B. By explaining words’ definitions.
C. By connecting them with our life. D. By adding words from the article.
50. What can we learn according to the passage
A. You can’t communicate successfully if you are not good at grammar.
B. Without a good memory, it is impossible for you to remember a new word.
C. To learn and remember new words, it is important to use them at once.
D. Reading is more active than just writing a definition.
第二节: 阅读填空(共 5 小题,每小题 1 分,满分 5 分)
Language students often think they have memory problems. They worry because they can’t remember words. In fact, the problem usually isn’t with their memory.
51 .
To remember words better, you need to understand how memory works. 52 . When you see, hear or read something, it goes first into short-term memory. But short-term memory lasts for only a few seconds. You will only remember something longer if it goes into long-term memory. 53 And like a library, it’s organized. When you put away a book or memory and you can’t just leave it anywhere. You have to choose a place where you can find it again.
54 The answer is to work with the word and think about the word in new ways. You can do this by writing new sentences that include it. Even better, you can invent a little story about the word, with people or places that you know. Another way is to make a picture in your mind with the word. For example, if the word is “height”, you can think of the tallest person you know and try to guess his or her height. 55 They make the meaning of words stronger in your long-term memory. And they give a way to find a word when you need it.
A. The problem is with how they study.
B. Your long-term memory is like a very big library with many books.
C. There are two kinds of memory: short-term and long-term.
D. All of these activities are good ways to think about words.
E. How can you do this with the word
