Steve Taylor was in his room lying down for sleep while his mother Katelyn was taking a shower. She wanted to bathe before going to bed herself. The 5-year-old boy was just about to fall asleep when he heard a loud noise from the bathroom he hurried to have a look.
When he got to the bathroom, he found his mother lying in the bathtub (浴缸) with blood coming from her head. She had an epileptic fit (癫痛发作) and didn’t know anything. However, little Steve kept a cool head.
He first went to his 2 month-old sister and put her in a blanket (毛毯), placing her on the sofa. He then climbed up a chair to open the door. Once the door opened, Steve picked her up from the sofa and went to his neighbor’s house. The neighbor, Jessica, was very surprised to see her two young neighbors standing outside her door at such a strange hour.
She first thought the little boy was coming to talk about his dog. But he said, “No, my mom died in the shower. Can you take care of us Jessica ran to next door in a hurry and found Katelyn in the shower with the water still running. She called 911 and help arrived just in time.

Have you wondered how the three Chinese astronauts of Shenzhou XII spend their 6 months’ life in space The following will explain astronauts’ daily life in space to you.
Astronauts almost do the same things when they go to space. Food preparations vary with different food types. Some foods can be eaten in their natural forms, such as chocolate cakes and fruits. Other foods require adding water, such as cheese. Of course, an oven is provided at the space station to heat the food. But there is no fridge, so space food must be kept properly.
After a long day at work, nothing is better than a good night’s sleep! Just like on the earth, in space astronauts go to bed at certain time, then get up and prepare for work again. When going to sleep, they have to tie themselves, so they don’t fly around or hit their bodies against something. They usually use sleeping bags located in small crew cabins (乘员舱). Each crew cabin is big enough for one person. Generally, astronauts have an eight-hour sleep each day when they finish their task.
Exercise is an important part of every astronaut’s daily life to prevent muscle loss (肌肉萎缩). Commonly, astronauts exercise two hours every day. Lifting 200 pounds on the earth may be a lot of work. But lifting that same object in space would be much easier. That means exercise equipment needs to be special, so astronauts can receive the exercise needed.

A mouse was surprised to discover that the farmer and his wife had a mousetrap in the house. It ran to warn everyone, “There is a mousetrap in the house!”
A hen raised her head and said, “Mr. Mouse, this mousetrap is only for you. I won’t be worried about it.” The mouse turned to a pig, “I am sorry, Mr. Mouse, but the mousetrap has nothing to do with me, either!” the pig said. When I was in the sixth grade, my teacher asked our class the question, “What does ‘doing the right thing’ mean to you ” She asked us to think about it over the weekend, and to talk to anyone else we thought might have a good answer. By Monday, we were to hand in an article on it, and be prepared to live up to our answers.
The whole weekend, I tried to come up with something that would impress (使留下深刻印象) my teacher and be easy to do. I talked to my parents, called my grandmother, and asked my next door neighbor. Everyone had good answers, but I didn’t feel like I could do them.
On Sunday afternoon my parents took me to my Aunt Cindy’s house. After dinner, my parents told me to play with my four-year-old cousin Andrea while they visited. I turned on the television and found a Disney movie for Andrea, and then I sat down and started to write my article. I still know what I was going to write about. Soon I felt a pair of eyes on me. It was Andrea.
“What are you doing ” she asked.
“I have to write an article about what doing the right thing means to me.” I answered. Andrea laughed. “That’s easy,” she said.
“Okay, tell me the answer,” I said.
“Doing the right thing means: Being nice to your family and friends. Doing what your mum says. Never lie. Take a bath when you’re dirty. Don’t waste water and electricity...”
I looked at Andrea amazingly. Not only had she answered a very difficult question for me, but I could easily follow all of her rules. And all I had to do was to be nice. So when I wrote my article, I include the story about Andrea.

Our school’s science festival just ended a few days ago. What interested me most was the time we spent making a car. It was made out of corrugated cardboard(瓦楞纸板), but could still hold a person, as well as move.
We were excited about this idea, but we found it hard to make the car. It seemed impossible for a cardboard car to carry someone. Our physics teacher showed us a video. There was some corrugated card-board shaped like a “V” or “W” in the video. It could hold more weight. This gave us the idea to make the car after getting the proper materials(材料).
Because there was not much time left for us, we had to finish it as quickly as possible. We talked about how the car should be made and how to test it. I was glad that we were able to work closely with each other. Everyone saw the work as an interesting way to relax. When the car was finally finished, we all wore a smile on our faces and found that all our work had been worth it.
We joined the competition after we finished the car. Though we didn’t win any prizes, we found something meaningful than success. We leaned new tings about physics and learned how to get along with each other.

John Dunlop, an Englishwoman, writes something about her experience with food from China. Since the COVID-19 broke out in London, cooking has become a way for her to deal with the “endless lockdown(封锁)”. She says she cooks in a very relaxed way, going to the farmers’ market at the weekend to buy seasonal products for everyday cooking—a mixture of Jiangnan, Hunan, Guangdong, and Sichuan dishes.
“For me, there are so many wonderful things about Chinese food. The thing that I find is greatest about it is that you can eat food that is both really delicious and incredibly healthy,” Dunlop says. “The Chinese are experts at cooking vegetables.”
Growing up in Oxford, Dunlop dreamed of becoming a cook when she was little. However, her dream did not come true until she came to Chengdu, as a university student. That was when she began learning local cooking skills.
Always keeping a notebook on hand wherever she went, she wrote down the recipes of the dishes she tasted. Based on her knowledge of Sichuan cuisine (烹饪), Dunlop published her first book, Sichuan Cookery, which was praised by a famous British diet magazine. She has written a book called Land of Fish and Rice, which is about recipes from Jiangnan. In the book, Dunlop displays her good understanding of the food culture that runs deep in the blood of Chinese people.
“Many of the old classic food books came from this region.” she says.
To better understand the context (背景) of the food in Jiangnan, Dunlop started reading Chinese classics like The Dream of the Red Chamber which contained detailed descriptions of dishes in ancient China.
After collecting all the recipes, Dunlop tested them at her home in London to make sure they worked for people in the West.
“What I want to do is to try to describe the recipes correctly.” She says. “I also like the dishes that I’ve enjoyed, or that have a particular meaning for me.” she adds.

Living in space is not just all work and no play. Fun plays an important role in the quality of their life.

Two weeks later, my teacher returned everyone’s articles. I received an A+ along with a little note my teacher had written: “Always do the right thing—and give Andrea an A+, too!”

When I was very young, people in our village lived by planting fruit trees. My grandmother always took me to the orchard (果园) on the hill. At that time, they had to carry water from the river at the foot of the hill to halfway up the hill. Even though we worked so hard, the production level of fruit was still low because it was short of water there.
One day, two young men led a group of workers to our village. They learned about the difficulties we faced, and later, canals and other projects began to be built in my village, “Who are they ” I asked. “They are good men from our government,” my grandma replied.
Shortly afterwards, I moved to another city for my junior high school. The only reason I ever came back to my hometown was my grandmother.
One day, my family and I made time to return. We were surprised because everything had changed. The canal ran past every orchard so villagers didn’t have to go up and down the hill anymore. The river was now so clean that fish swam happily in it. When we arrived home, my grandma took out some fresh pears and apples. She told us that after the water conservation project (水利工程) was completed, a policy (政策) was made to encourage more people to increase the fruit production with clean water in the river.

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down a well. The animal cried for hours as the farmer tried to find a way to get it out. Finally, he decided to give up the animal, because it was old, and the well needed to be covered up.
He invited all of his neighbors to come over and help him. They all began to fill the well with dirt. The donkey realized what was happening and began to cry. Then, to everyone’s surprise, it became quiet.
A few minutes later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was surprised at what he saw. With each shovel of the dirt that hit its back, the donkey shook it off and took a step up.

This year, we were learning about Africa in our social studies classes. Our teacher told us that nearly half of the children in Africa are poor. They don’t have enough food to eat. They live in dirty houses and sleep on the floor at night. And their villages don’t have a school.
As our teacher spoke, I thought about the things that I had in my own life: my music player, my computer, a fridge that is filled with good food, spending money whenever I want to. My biggest worry is what I will do on the weekend. But an African girl’s worry is whether she will have anything to eat today.
Our teacher told us that our class could support a village in Africa. All we needed to do was to raise money. With only $250, we could help build a school.
For the next two months, my friends and I worked really hard. Finally, we raised $250. Our teacher helped us send it to the African School Program.
One day, a letter arrived. Our teacher read it aloud to us. A young boy from the village wrote , “Yesterday, we had no hope. Today, we can go to school just like kids all over the world.
