Sometimes we find a book so interesting that we read the whole of it, and other times we may find a book that we don't enjoy so much and we only read parts of it. To describe the different ways in which we read, we often use different phrases. Now let's take a look at some“reading”phrases, paying attention to the small differences in meaning between them.
I was lucky enough to be on holiday last week and I spent some time with my nose in a book.“Nose in a book”is a commonly used English phrase. It is usually used to describe someone who is always reading, and the word“head”is sometimes used instead of“nose”. For example:
My younger brother always has his nose in a book.
Jess is a book lover. She always has her head in a book.
Let's continue with the enthusiastic(满腔热忱的) reading. If you devour a book, you read it quickly and with great interest. For example: He devoured all three books in two days.
People often talk about getting lost in a book, meaning that they give the book so much of their attention that they don't not ice or think about anything else. For example: I love that feeling of getting lost in a book.
But what about the opposite, when we read without enthusiasm Perhaps we only read a few pages of a book, but didn't find it interesting or exciting. We can say the book didn't grab us. For example: I don't know why I couldn't get into the second novel. It just didn't grab me in the way that the first one did.
63. How many“reading” phrases are talked about in this passage

C. Because it isn't interesting. D. Because it isn't helpful.

There is a famous saying, “East or West, home is the best.” What does the word“home”mean to you How do you say the word in French, in Chinese, or in your language Although people usually know what the word means, it sometimes has no exact translation. It's not surprising, because the idea of home is different from country to country, and from person to person. A home is more than a roof(屋顶) and four walls. It's cooking, eating, talking, playing and sleeping that go on inside. And at home you usually feel safe and relaxed.
Homes look different in different countries. They also have different things inside. For example, in cold northern Europe, there's a fire in the living room or kitchen and all the chairs face it. In the south, where the sun shines a lot, it's more important to keep the heat out, and there are small windows and cool stone floors.
We asked some people about their homes.
How often do people move house in your country
“In my country many people don't stay in one place for a very long time. They often move every ten years or so.”
———— Chery, Boston, US
What are features of homes in your country
“In Britain, even in town, there's always a garden. We have separate bedrooms and living rooms. But we don't often have balconies(阳台). The weather isn't warm enough!”
———— Pat, Exeter, England

My Favorite Traditional Festival
Among all the traditional festivals, I like the Lantern Festival best. It's celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month. During the festival, we usually eat sweet dumplings, admire beautiful lanterns and enjoy the fantastic lion or dragon dances. The most interesting activity is guessing lantern riddles. We can have fun and learn something from it. The festival not only brings us joy,but also makes us know more about our culture, so it's my favorite festival.
Let's pay more attention to our traditional festivals. The more we learn about them, the more deeply we will love our culture.
