While you are walking on the street, you will notice more and more new energy vehicles(NEVs)( 新能源车) running on the roads. Many famous Chinese car makers have developed NEVs, such as BYD, Geely, Wuling and so on. In 2022, a total of 688.7 million new energy vehicles were sold in Chinese market. Why has NEV market had such a rapid growth in last few years The main reason is that the buying of NEVs has been greatly supported by the local government, which has continued to reduce taxes(税) for NEVs these years. Besides, Chinese banks have offered a lot of policies to attract people to buy NEVs. For example, many banks have announced new loan(借贷) policies(政策) to allow NEVs buyers to borrow a larger part of the buying price.
When compared with patrol cars(燃油车), NEVs’ structure(结构) is much simpler. It can save a lot of cost in the daily maintenance(维修) of NEVs. Another advantage is the environment friendly, NEVs make fewer noises and less vibration(振动), which can make drivers have more comfortable driving experience. However, we have to admit there are still some problems with NEVs. For example, there are not enough charging piles(充电桩) and they need much time to charge(充电). The good news is that these problems are actually being improved, most of car owners in China said their next car will be an NEV, having a better driving experience and lower cost as the top reasons.

Every year many people move to the cities because there are more chances to find work, to study at good schools and to receive good medical care(医疗). But sometimes these people can’t find work or a good place to live in. Also too many people in such a small place make it hard to keep the cities safe and clean.
Some people enjoy living in big cities, but others don’t. When people move to big cities, they should think about the problems of living there.

Introduction
The Xinghua School Reading Club was five years old last month so we decided to make a survey to find out what students think about it. We are sorry to report that membership of our club has fallen in recent years. As Picture 1 shows, only 85 students are members this year.
More findings
We talked to students from Grade 1 to Grade 3 to try to find out why they did not want to join the Reading Club. They gave many different answers, but as Picture 2 shows, the most common reason was that they were not interested in books.
16% of students said they were not interested in the activities of our Reading Club, so we asked students which activities they enjoyed during last year’s Reading Week. These results are shown in Picture 3.
It was clear from these results that the booklover competition was very popular. One student said that we should have a book test with teams from each class. The winning team could compete against teams from other schools. Some students said that they prefer reading books that have been made into movies, such as Harry Potter.
Suggestions
We should try to increase the membership of Xinghua School Reading Club. We can do this by organizing more fun activities, such as competitions. We also raise students’ interest in reading by sharing books that are also movies. We should also make sure that our activities do not influence those of other school clubs and teams.

There are over 800 boarding(寄宿) schools in the UK with students from home and foreign countries. Boarding schools started hundreds of years ago in the country. But the earliest boarding schools were set up for white, rich boys only. Now both boys and girls can go to boarding schools from the age of 7 to 18.
What to do
In the UK, boarding schools have three terms in a school year, with about 13 weeks in each term. Students study and live together. They can’t go outside if they are not allowed to. In some schools, each student has his or her subject plan. Besides the usual classrooms and laboratories, the boarding schools have lots of other facilities for their students, including music rooms, boats, swimming pools, cinemas and theatres. Most boarding schools have a "light out" time. So when it’s time to go to bed, all the lights in the bedrooms are turned off. There are house masters to take care of students all the time, especially after school hours.
What to wear
Nearly all the students in boarding schools wear a school uniform. Boys usually wear a shirt and a tie, and girls wear a white blouse, sometimes also a tie and a skirt. As students get older, the rules become less strict.
In the UK, boarding schools provide students with delicious food. They can choose to have a full English breakfast or bread. And there is always self-service for salad(沙拉), other side dishes and a dessert. Students can also make themselves something to eat at any time in a kitchen, or drink tea or have a snack between meals.

Kelly’s favorite subject is P. E. But she had a hard time in P. E. class. She was not good at jumping very far, she had trouble throwing a ball, and she couldn’t run really fast. Sometimes, some kids made fun of (取笑) her. So why does Kelly love P. E. class
The reason is that her teacher Mr. Burns always tells her to insist and keep running. Though she only ran for a few minutes, Mr. Burns said, “Good job! Keep going! Next time you will be able to go a little longer.” Mr. Burns even put a small box on the floor, so Kelly would be able to practice jumping over it.
That night when Kelly finished dinner, she put three boxes and began practicing jumping over them. She made it! Kelly thought to herself, “Tomorrow I will be able to jump over those boxes in P. E. class.”
There was a relay race (接力赛) on Tuesday. Kelly was scared that she would not be able to run fast. When Kelly ran around the track (跑道), she heard many cheers and kids shouting, “Go Kelly! You can do it!” That was all she needed to hear. Kelly ran fast. She finished first! The kids cheered for her. I hired a man to repair my old farmhouse. He met many difficulties on his first day on the job. A flat tire (漏气的车胎) made him lose an hour of work, his electric saw (电锯) didn’t work, and now his old truck refused to start.
While I drove him home, he sat in silence. When we arrived, he invited me to meet the family. As we walked towards the front door, he stopped at a small tree, touching the branches with both hands.
After opening the door, he had an amazing change. He smiled and hugged his two small children and then gave his wife a kiss.

So I just hang it up in the tree every night when I come home. Plunk! I dropped another pecan (山核桃) into my basket. Then a gentle autumn wind blew some more off the tree. I ran to pick them up. Whew! Pecan picking was hard. My basket was only half full.
I was visiting my grandpa’s farm in Kansas, and Grandpa sent me into the woods to pick up pecans for us to enjoy later. I wasn’t about to let him down.
Then something caught my eye: a squirrel picked up a pecan, climbed up a tree and disappeared into a large hole. A moment later, the squirrel climbed down to the ground to pick another pecan. Once again, he took the pecan back to his secret hiding place inside the hollow (洞) of the tree.
Not so secret anymore, I thought. I ran over to the tree and found the hollow was filled with sweet pecans. They were right there for the taking. This was my chance. Handful by handful, I took all the pecans from the hollow. Now the basket was full!
I was so proud of myself. I couldn’t wait to show Grandpa all of the pecans I’d collected.
“Look, Grandpa,” I shouted, “look at all of the pecans I found!”
Grandpa took a look at my basket. “Well, well, how did you find so many, Jimmy ” I told him how I’d followed the squirrel and taken the pecans from his hiding place. Grandpa congratulated me on finding out something about the squirrel’s habits. Then he did something that surprised me. He handed the basket back to me and put his arm gently around my shoulders.
“That squirrel wor
