One Sunday, Jacob, a teenager, went skiing at Sugarloaf Mountain. When he was planning to go home, a fierce snowstorm swept into the area. Unable to see far, he accidentally turned off the path. Before he knew it, Jacob was lost, all alone! He didn’t have food, water, a phone, or other supplies.
Jacob had no idea where he was. He tried to keep calm. He thought about all of the survival shows he had watched on TV. It was time to put the tips he had learned to use. He decided to stop skiing. There was a better chance of someone finding him if he stayed put. He tried to find a shelter from the freezing wind and snow. If he didn’t his body temperature would get very low, which could quickly kill him.
Using his skis and some branches, Jacob built a snow cave to stay as warm as he could. He ate snow and drank water from a nearby stream so that his body wouldn’t lose too much water. Not knowing how much longer he could last, Jacob huddled in his cave and slept.
The next day, Jacob went out to look for help, but he couldn’t find anyone. He returned to the snow cave. On Tuesday, Jacob went out again. He had walked for about a mile when a volunteer searcher found him. Finally, Jacob was saved.
Thanks to Grylls’ survival show Man vs. Wild, one of which is about Grylls’ finding his way out in a wild area, Jacob saved his life. Farming is a tradition among many in South Dakota, one that is not always easy to keep in the family. But one family has survived four generations and hopes to continue long into the future.
The year was 1933 when Ed VanderWal’s father first stepped onto the farm. Now 80 years later, Ed carries the passion his father gave him for farming every day while working the fields on the family farm in Volga.
“Well, I was in the first grade when my dad moved here to this farm and I grew up on the farm. And that's what I was interested in doing more,” Ed said. But that love of working the land didn't stop with Ed. He’s passed it down to his six sons. Some of them run farms of their own now, but two of them, Scott and David, still work side by side with their dad every day.
Some people might worry that working sun up to sun down with family seven days a week would lead to a few family spats. But for the VanderWals, the constant time together works just fine.
“When families work together on a farm, it’s a challenge at times getting along. Everyone has to pull their weight and do their share. And that, of course, transfers from one generation to the next,” Scott said.
And while they all get along like any family, with good days and bad, it's tradition that keeps each generation teaching the next.
“But we taught them to work with animals at a young age, like most farmers do. So it’s nice to be able to pass that tradition onto the next generation,” Scott said.
The youngest generation of the VandcrWals, Ed’s three grandsons and a granddaughter, all started learning farming techniques at a young age.
12. Why did Ed VanderWal devote himself to the farm
A. Because he grew up on the farm.
B. Because he was affected by his father.
C. Because he could do nothing but work on the farm.
D. Because he wanted to set a good example for his sons.
13. What does the underlined word “spats” in the fourth paragraph mean
A. Panics. B. Shifts. C. Quarrels. D. Blames.
14. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Ed’s farms have no lack of successors (继承者).
B. The VariderWals have strict family rules.
C. Ed’s tradition has great effect on the local.
D. Ed’s grandchildren will drop out of school.
15. What’s the passage mainly about
A. A farming family. B. A successful farmer.
C. The agricultural generation. D. The agricultural tradition.

I was a volunteer for an organisation at the beginning of this year. The organisation is aimed at helping children who suffer from cancer. One day, we were asked to raise money for cancer research and programme funding at an event.
Since my friend Lisa was also a volunteer for the organisation, I went to the event with her. There were many people at the event. After seeing our poster, some people came to us and talked with us. But few people donated money. It was a bit hot that day. Both Lisa and I got really upset.
Half an hour later, Lisa started complaining, “I don’t think we can raise much money today. ”
“Don’t worry. The event lasts for three hours. There is still a lot of time left,” I said, though I also thought poorly of our plan to raise much money that day.
While Lisa and I were talking, a little boy of about eight years old came to us. He stood in front of our poster and started reading.
After a while, he asked, “What is cancer?”
I explained what cancer is. Then I said, “Many people around the world are suffering from cancer. It can be really dangerous. More research is needed to learn about it so that people with it can suffer less. That’s why we’re collecting money for it. ”
“Do children suffer from cancer, too?” asked the boy.
“Yes. Many children suffer from cancer. Some of them may die. They need help. ” Lisa said and I nodded.
Hearing that, the boy became sad. Then the boy asked, “How much money have you collected?”
Both Lisa and I were embarrassed to tell him that we didn’t raise much money. At last, we said, “Not much. ”
The boy looked into our donation container and only saw a few one dollar and five dollar bills. The boy said nothing after seeing that and left. Then some girls came to us and we started talking with them. Neither Lisa nor I thought the boy would return. However, about twenty minutes later, the boy did return.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
The boy happily ran to us and asked, “Would you take a donation from children?”

If he didn’t, his body temperature would get very low, which could quickly kill him.
When Grylls heard about Jacob’ amazing deeds, he was super impressed that Jacob had made it since he knew better than anyone how hard Jacob had to work to stay alive.

15. What’s the passage mainly about
A A farming family. B. A successful farmer.
C. The agricultural generation. D. The agricultural tradition.
【答案】12. B 13. C 14. A 15. A

根据空前“which means it will be a day full of sweat”和空后“I will not complain”可知,前后是转折关系,所以空处应填表示转折的副词However/Yet/Nevertheless,表示“但是”。故填However/Yet/Nevertheless。

【答案】Dear Diana,
I’m glad to hear that you intend to visit China this summer. Learning that you want to know more about body language in my country, I’m writing to offer you some advice.
Firstly, while Frence people are fond of kissing when they greet, Chinese people are accustomed to shaking hands. Besides, standing too close during a conversation usually makes people uncomfortable. What’s more, please note that “OK” sign means approval here, as opposed to meaning zero in France. Please keep these things in mind to avoid any misunderstandings. But there’s no need to worry too much, because Chinese people are very understanding and considerate. Not to mention that I’m eager to be your guide.
Looking forward to meeting you soon, and hoping you have a good trip in China.
Yours,
Li Hua

47. 读后续写

【答案】The boy happily ran to us and asked, “Would you take a donation from children?” Lisa and I looked at each other. We couldn’t believe such a little boy would care. Though we didn’t believe it, we said “yes”. The boy put his hand in his pocket and took out some five dollar bills. He said, “I just asked for them from my mother. I really want to help the children suffering from cancer. ”
Both Lisa and I were deeply touched. We thanked the boy, but he left soon. Looking at his back, both Lisa and I were greatly encouraged. We wanted to try harder to raise money. So instead of just standing there, we went to people and told them about our programme. At the end of the day, we raised over three thousand dollars, a lot more than Lisa and I had expected in the beginning.
