But if you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. It is coming from the neck of the smaller horse in the field. It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow him.
As you stand and watch these two friends, you’ll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is, so that he will not be left(落下).
When the horse with the bell returns to the barn(畜棚) each evening, he will stop from time to time to look back, making sure that the blind friend isn’t too far behind to hear the bell.

①When you’re trying to make friends, you’ll probably meet someone who just doesn’t like you, though you’ve never done anything to him or her. Well, what should you do Here’s some advice.
②Gossip (流言蜚语) can make meeting new people difficult, especially(尤其) when people hear something bad about you. It can prevent someone from getting to know you at all. When you’re in a situation(情况) like this, it feels bad. Instead of trying to win them over(说服), however, just be yourself. As time goes by, they will see that the gossip about you is wrong. Or they may choose to believe it. Don’t worry about it and move on by being friendly to the kind people.
③You’d think that your friend’s friends would also become your friends. But it doesn’t work that way. Sometimes people are happy with the friendships they have, and they aren’t interested in adding any more. If someone chooses not to be friends with you just because you’re new to the group, it’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with you or them.
④An even more difficult situation is when someone has met you and just doesn’t like you. Every joke you make is taken the wrong way. Every time you try to do something nice, they find fault (找茬儿). As much as it hurts, accept that not everyone is going to be your friend. Don’t take it personally. These things could happen to everyone. There are just some people you won’t like.
⑤In a word,if someone doesn’t want to be your friend, that’s okay. Don’t get angry with them because it’s their choice(选择). Instead, give your time and attention to the people that are interested in being with you.

D. You shouldn’t accept it in person.
( )59. Which is the best way to divide(分割) the passage
A.①//②③④//⑤ B. ①//②③//④⑤ C. ①//②③④⑤ D. ①②//③④//⑤
( )60. The passage mainly wants to tell us .
A. how to make new friends B. how to have a talk with others

Dan and the Missing Dogs
Dan jumped on his bike and cycled out of the village. Dylan ran along beside him. After about five minutes they came to the sign to Holt Farm. Dan stopped. The farmhouse was down a farm road and behind some trees.
Dan put his bike behind a hedge(树篱)—he didn’t want anyone to see it. Then he started walking down the road.
Dylan walked along behind him. Quickly they came to the trees. Dan moved carefully through the trees. He didn’t want the thieves(贼) to see him.
He got near to the house.
He could see the white van(货车) by the side of the house. He could hear dogs barking but he couldn’t see them.
Slowly and carefully he moved round the house Dylan followed him.
At the back of the house he found the dogs. There were ten of them all together. The dogs were all in a small area with a fence(栅栏) around it. Some of the dogs were standing up barking, a couple were playing and the others were lying down.
There was a gate in the fence with a lock on it.
Dan looked across at the van.
“It’s probably best to get my phone back and call the police,” he thought.
“Stay!” he told Dylan quietly.
Then he quickly ran over to the van. The back door didn’t open. He tried the driver’s door. That didn’t open.
Dan sat down behind the van and thought. The thieves probably had the keys in the house. He could cycle back to the village and call the police. Or he could open the gate and let the dogs out first, and then cycle back to the village. That was a better idea.

A. Because he didn’t know the way at all.
B. Because he was afraid of hungry dogs.
C. Because he didn’t want the thieves to see him.

Desi nodded, feeling a little . She didn’t like that her mom looked so worried. “To protect students from the sickness, schools will be shutting down ... starting tomorrow,” her mom said quietly.
