Chinese researchers reached the top of Qomolangma on May 4, 2022. They set up the world’s highest automatic(自动的) weather station at an altitude(海拔) of 8,830 meters. This helps them to study the influences of climate change on the environment.

Lucy 18:30 Feb. 18, 2023 A subject that gives students a better understanding of themselves. According to some surveys(调查), many middle school students don’t have a dream. A person without a dream is like a ship sailing without compass(指南针). Teaching students to understand themselves better can help them discover their strenghs and weaknesses. Then, they will have more confidence and a clearer direction in life. LIKE(38) REPLY
William 19:20 Feb. 18, 2023 I would suggest adding sign language(手语). Not many people know how to communicate with those who have hearing problems. In Pontevedra, Spain, people don’t shout. Since cars are not allowed in the city, there are no horns(喇叭)or noises from car engines. People don’t have to try hard to make themselves heard. What you hear in the street, instead, is the singing of birds.
“Listen,” says Miguel Lores, the mayor(市长), opening the windows of his office. From the street below rises the sound of human voices. “More than 14,000 cars used to pass along this street every day. There were more cars passing through the city in a day than people living here.
Lores became mayor in 1999. He spent months walking around the city. “The historical city is dead,” he said one day. “It is full of cars. It is heavily polluted. There are a lot of traffic accidents. The elderly and children aren’t able to use the streets because of cars. People who had a chance to leave have done so.”
At first, Lores thought of improving traffic conditions. However, he couldn’t come up with a good plan. After lots of discussions, the government finally decided to get rid of(清除)cars.
The change has brought Pontevedra many benefits. Traffic accidents are now rare(罕见的). CO2 emissions(排放物)are down by 70%. Many people are moving to the city, making it lively again.
Most local people like the change. Ramiro Armesto, a mother of two young children, said, “In the past, the first thing to see in the morning was traffic jams. Now, the city is cleaner, quieter and safer.” Raquel Garcia, another parent, said she had stayed in many cities around the world. Students usually go to school in different ways. In our school, most students get to school between 7:30 and 8:00 in the morning. Some arrive on foot, and some take the bus. However, eighty percent of the students arrive in their parents’ cars. The entrance (入口) to the school is crowded and dangerous. I think cars are the main problem. I think there are a few things we can do.
First, we should encourage students to take the bus or walk to school. Taking the bus can help cut down air pollution. Walking is healthier, too. Next, what should parents do if their children have to come to school by car I think their parents should park their cars far away from the school entrance. For example, they can park their cars at the end of the street. Finally, in my opinion, when parents park dangerously in front of the school entrance, they will be punished and have to pay some money—a fine (罚金). This way, they will be cautious and think twice before parking.

Lots of scientists are studying robots today. Many robots don’t always look like people. Some are like big machines, and some are nothing but long arms. However, modern robots are smart. Some can solve problems on their own.
Robots are more and more useful and important in our life. They help us a lot. In factories, robots can help people do a lot of work. They work faster and do not need a rest. People will feel bored if they do the same job again and again, but robots will not. They can work in some dangerous places where people cannot.
Robots are useful in our homes, too. They can help us do some cooking. They can help the blind people read newspapers, help the old people move some heavy things and so on. If we have some other problems, we can also ask them for help.
However, robots are not so clever as people. They cannot think like us. If we do not “teach” them how to do things first, they can do nothing.

Little stream (小溪) ran down from a high mountain through many villages and forests. Then it reached a desert. “I went through so many difficulties. After many tries, she still failed. “Maybe I can’t reach the ocean,” she said sadly to herself.
At this time, a deep voice said, “If a breeze (微风) can cross the desert, so can a river.” It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered, “That’s because a breeze can fly, but I cannot.”
“That’s because you can’t give up what you are. Let yourself evaporate (蒸发) into the breeze, and it can take you across,” said the desert. “Give up what I am now No! No!” The little stream could not accept this idea. “The breeze can carry the vapor (蒸汽) across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again,” said the desert.“And whether you’re a river or vapor, your nature never changes.” Hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the breeze. Chocolate is made from the seeds (种子) of cocoa trees (可可树). The seeds come in football-shaped pods (豆荚). A pod is about 15 to 30 centimeters long, 8 to 10 centimeters wide. When you break a pod, you’ll find 20 to 60 seeds.

After the fermentation, you dry them, clean them, heat them and break them. Then you get something with a smell of chocolate. It is heated and separated into cocoa butter. When you mix it with milk or sometimes vegetable oil, and sugar, you get different kinds of chocolate.
Chocolate is not a good choice if you want to lose weight, but it is a good source (来源) of vitamins and minerals (矿物质). You should be careful not to eat too much because it may cause some people to have a headache. It can also cause skin problems in some people.

Have you ever heard of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park It is our own “Amazon”. If you travel there, what can you enjoy
Animals
The park is home to Hainan gibbons (长臂猿). They look like monkeys, but have no tails. They eat fruits and leaves from over 130 kinds of plants. In the 1980s, there were fewer than 10 gibbons in the park. In 2022, there were 36 because people protected their homes and planted trees.
The park is a “live museum” of plants. It is also the home to 133 kinds of national key protected plants. Cycas hainanensis (海南苏铁) is an example. It has big, feather-like leaves. It grows slowly, but can live as long as 200 years. It probably won’t grow flowers or fruits in North China. But in Hainan, cycas hainanensis over 10 years old blossom (开花) and bear fruits almost every year.
Miao and Li people have lived in the park for generations (世代). Their houses look like upside-down boats. They are built above the ground to keep away animals. Li people make clothes from bark (树皮). Their history of tree bark clothing dates back to about 10,000 years ago. Some people still use bark clothing nowadays.

Both my wife and I are running lovers. I usually run on the track in my neighbourhood. Most people walk on the track, so I am faster than them. My speed seems amazing to the walkers and I often pass by them twenty or more times around the track. This makes me feel proud.
One day, a short man came. He didn’t look like much of a runner. I saw him get out of the car and warm up before running when I passed by two walkers. He started running a few metres ahead of me. He was fast but I sped up and managed to catch up with him. I had someone to compete with. But after a lap (圈), I fell behind him and had great difficulty in breathing. After two laps, my foot began to hurt, so I had to slow down and began to run at my usual speed. This time I could breathe again without sounding like I had a lung disease (肺病) and the pain in my foot went away. In a very short time, he was far ahead. He was too fast for me to follow.
That day, I learnt several lessons. In life, there will always be those slower and faster. Some have natural talent (天赋), and some have trained harder. Don’t judge (判断) the capacity of a person by how he or she looks.
The point is that we each have our own speed. When we are trying to keep up, we often end up hurting ourselves and being out of breath. Slow down or speed up, but run your race to your best. Don’t run fast when you should be running slowly. Don’t run at all when you should be walking. Don’t walk when you should be running.

The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China points out the importance of reading and calls on people to read more books, so shared bookhouses have appeared in many places. Reading has become a trend in our country.
A reading campaign (行动) took place in Shenyang in April, 2023. Many people took part in it. Li Hong, a girl from a junior high school, said, “My mother and I took part in the campaign because both of us like reading. Books are our necessary furniture in our house. I know a lot about Chinese classic (经典的) works. Reading makes my life colourful and will change my dream into reality (现实).”

Recently, my daughter reminded me of someone we saw at the train station a few years ago.
That day, my daughter and I were waiting for our train. We went to buy some drinks, and then we saw the old man. Dressed poorly, he was standing in front of the counter(柜台) while counting coins slowly to buy just one bottle of water. The businessman behind him said impatiently, “Hey! Can’t you be quick Some of us have a train to catch!” Hearing this, the old man seemed to be very embarrassed, so he walked away quietly at once.
It was my turn. I bought our two drinks and the old man’s water as well. We walked up to him and gave him the water with a smile. After walking away, my daughter complained, “Dad, the old man is so impolite. He didn’t even say ‘thank you’ to us!” I told her that we did this not to get a “thank you” from other people. We just wanted to be nice.
Now, my daughter always reaches out to help people. She waves, makes eye contact(接触) and says “hi” to people on the street. She holds doors for people. She scoops up things that other people drop.
When I mentioned this recently, she seemed surprised. I asked her why she was so kind all the time. She said, “Because it is just right to be that way.” Then she added, “And because I see you do that all the time.”

In a word, cars are making it dangerous for students to enter the school safely. Therefore (因此), encouraging students to walk to school, or asking parents to park away from the school gate could solve this problem.

It’s possible that we will have our own robots, and they will help us to do more things in the future.

But before she could, she received a letter telling her that he had died, and gave all of his possessions (财产) to her. She needed to come back and take care of the things.
When she arrived at his house, she was surprised to see the still new dictionary there, just as she had left it years before. With tears in her eyes, she opened it and began to turn the pages. A ring dropped from the dictionary to the floor and a card could be seen. She picked it up and found it was the ring she wanted in those days. And on the card was the date of her birth, and the words “LOVE YOU ALWAYS”.
Please remember sometimes the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, unless they are felt with your heart.
