My memories of my father are divided into parts and shares. Alive, and then dead. Healthy, and then helpless. And further back in time, the first and most division: Present and then absent; loving, and then in different(漠不关心的).
He used to be a good writer and loving father. When I was a 16-year-old girl, he was fired from his company, a public, gossip-based dismissal that he would spend decades refusing responsibility for. This was the first crack that divided my relationship with him into poles of before and after. To escape his shame, he pushed away those who reminded him of it, first divorcing my mother, then alienating(疏远) my sister and I.
As an adult, my relationship with my father was one of low expectations and high boundaries. He spent most of his time travelling. But when he died of heart failure in August, I was knocked off balance by the weight of the blow. I thought, after years of setting up delicate fences around our relationship, that I had already begun letting go. His death delivered a realization:despite years of analyzing his complicated love for me, there were pieces of my father In ever understood—until I found my father's notebooks in his cupboard.
In the notebooks, he often collected documentation: train tickets from Rome or a photograph of San Francisco’s Prescott Hotel. But what he was also doing was offering fatherly guidance, the kind I could only receive after he died. His life, in which what he had was never quite enough, was eventually exposed. In his final decade, he realized he had built a castle for himself upon sand and regret. Now in his entries, I hear his voice. “Debaleh,” I hear him say, using his pet name for me, “learn from my mistakes.”
I read these pages among my dad's clothes, and wept. I hadn’t known that my father, too, lived with that familiar ache for new horizons in his heart, the one that can only be comforted by travelling.

During a waste collection session in May at the base of Mount Qomolangma, in the Tibet Autonomous Region, participants put garbage (mostly plastics) into bags and prepared to transport them downhill.
Dressed in camouflage(迷彩服) and a blue vest, Sam drub dragged a sack to a blue truck parked a few hundred meters away. Scores of similar sacks were piled up along the roadside, waiting to be loaded on to the vehicle. Not far away, a couple of sheep roamed the deserted land looking for grass. “Loads of it here. Loads of it. This is the fifth continuous time we have come here and we still haven’t finished the clean-up,” said Sam drub, 64, who, like many Tibetans only uses one name. Sam drub and her companions are members of a regular clean-up campaign organized by the Lhasa Ban-White Association, an environmental advocacy group that taps the volunteer spirit to control abandoned plastic trash, also known as “white pollution”. The volunteers are of all ages and come from different walks of life. Now retired and with time to kill, Sam drub and her friends have taken to the city's ravines and riverbanks to battle the pollution. “In recent years, I’ve read reports that livestock(家畜) choked and died after eating plastic. I was born and raised in rural Shigatse, and I know how big a financial loss that is for herders.” Samdrub said.
Tersing Dorji, 62, a member of the Lhasa Ban-White Association, said the worst pollution results from rural farmers' markets and the common use of plastic bags, which are super-thin and relatively expensive to recycle. “They are of various colors and very light, and when the wind blows they fly everywhere.” she said.
A rule was then implemented(实施) by authorities in Lhasa that banned the production of super-thin plastics and ordered retailers to charge customers a fee if they wanted a regular plastic bag. The ban was later extended to the entire region. It has worked well generally, especially in supermarkets and other large operations, where additional charges for plastic bags have prompted many shoppers to opt for reusable items, such as cloth bags.
28. Why do the local volunteers like Samdrub participate in waste collection
A. They are retired and have little time left.
B. They can make money by collecting waste.
C. They are encouraged by an environmental group.
D. They fight against pollution to help the Tibetans.
29. What do we know about white pollution from Paragraph 2
A. It will soon finish with people's efforts.
B. People put it into sacks and dragged them downhill.
C. Clean-up campaigns are regularly organized to battle it.
D. It has been the main cause that leads to the death of livestock.
30. What does the underlined word “prompted” in the last paragraph probably mean
A. Caused. B. Advised. C. Promised. D. Supported.
31. What is the best title for the text
A. Ban on Plastic Bags B. Pollution Caused by Plastic Bags
C. Action Against Plastic Waste in Tibet D. Waste Collection Participated in by Locals

Art museums are filled with centuries-old paintings with details of plants that today give us clues about evolution and breeding practices.
Exhibited at an art museum in New York City, The Harvesters created by Pieter Bruegel in 1565shows farmers cutting wheat nearly as tall as they are. “Nowadays, if you walkthrough a wheat field, you basically see that wheat is about knee-height. The short wheat is essentially a consequence of breeding from the second half of the 20th century.” said biologist Ive De Smet.
According to DeSmet, wheat is just one example of how historical artwork can allow us to track the transformation of food crops over time. He teamed up with art historian David Vergauwen to seek similar kinds of artwork around the world.
Friends since childhood, their interest in plants in artwork began with a visit to a museum in Russia, where they noticed an odd-looking watermelon in a nearly-17th-century painting. A watermelon usually is believed to be dark red on the inside. But that one appeared to be pale and white. DeSmet assumed the painter had done a poor job. But Vergauwen had a different idea. He says, “This is one of the best painters ever from that era. So, if he painted t like that, that's the way it must have looked like.”
Other paintings revealed that there were both red and white watermelons grown during the 17th century. The color is determined by a gene that controls the lycopene(番茄红素). “There must have been some sort of genetic change preventing the accumulation of that color. Now, with all the genetic knowledge that we have from various plant species, we can look in more details how something comes about.”
The team hopes to create an online research database of historical plant artwork. They call for contributions of art enthusiasts around the world via the social media. But they caution, the source paintings need to be realistic. “If you're going to use, for example, Picasso's paintings to try and understand how a pear looked like in the early 20th century, you might be misled.” Indeed, such an attempt could be fruitless.
32. What can we learn about wheat from Paragraph 2
A. It had no short variety before the 1950s.
B. It became shorter and shorter as it evolved.
C. It grew shorter as farmers' heights changed.
D. It was about knee-height in the 17th century.
33. What inspired the team's interest in historical plant artwork
A. Their life-long friendship. B. A white watermelon painting.
C. Their professional background. D. An argument over the best painters.
34. Why is Picasso mentioned in the last paragraph
A. To show the contributions of art enthusiasts.
B. To give an example of historical plant artwork.
C. To tell how a pear looked in the early 20th century.
D. To stress the importance of having realistic source painting.
35. What is mainly talked about in the text
A. Centuries-old paintings of plants.
B. Plants information revealed in old art.
C. The values of different works of art.
D. Popular objects in historic artworks.

Over the last 100 years, many dinosaur egg fossils(化石) 56 (find), but finding one with a well-preserved embryo(胚胎) inside is extremely rare. A dinosaur embryo 57 (date) back to 66 million years ago was recently discovered in Gan zhou, Jiangxi Province. The 58 (perfect) preserved fossil is helping researchers understand the link between modern birds and their dinosaur ancestors.
The egg, 59 was named “Baby Yingliang”, is placed in the Yingliang Stone Nature History Museum in Fujian Province. A 92-year-old hunter getting lost in the woods
Bill McDonnell was going hunting. Deer season had begun, but it was colder than usual. Up until his late 80s, Bill hadn't minded hunting in sub-zero temperatures, but he had slowed in the past few years. The snow-dusted mountains of the Shenandoah Valley were no place for a 92-year-old.He knew it. But he had made up his mind to get outside. His wife, Joanna McDonnell, knew what he was up to. But this particular day, Joanna didn’t even try to talk sense into her husband.
The next morning, Bill woke up at four, grabbed his gun, and drove his Jeep toward Shenandoah Mountain, a place where he hadn't hunted for a long time. At the end of the old Laurel Run logging road, he hit the trail on foot.
It was about 7:30 a.m. when the sun peeked (微微露出) through the trees. Bill had strict instructions from Joanna to be out of the woods by 2 p.m. and home by 3 p.m.—plenty of time before sunset, in case he missed the deadline, which he often did. Not long into the hike, he came upon a path he didn't remember. Maybe this was a secret route. He took it.
Then, around 11a.m., he emerged into a clearing along a valley. It seemed that his path up the mountain had meandered (蜿蜒) quite a bit. When thoughts of short-cuts came to mind, Bill couldn’t help himself. “I’ll just be extra careful,” he reasoned, and began cutting his own path. Before long, the canyon(峡谷) narrowed to a deadend. The next thing he knew was that he was lost.
He pulled out his phone, only to find it had died. He dug into his pants for the GPS device he always brought in case of emergency and pushed the “on” button. Nothing. He had forgotten to charge it. He hadn't brought a flashlight either. During this period, he could hear the sound of a helicopter flying over his head. He yelled and waved, but in vain. He couldn’t make himself heard.注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
It was about 9:45 p.m. and the sound of the helicopter gradually softened in the distance.
The next morning, Bill had woken before dawn.

听力部分录音稿
(Text 1)
M:Amy, what's in that black box on the bottom shelf
W:You will know if you come over and cleanup the garage with me, Jim. All the staff on the bottom shelf is dad’s.
(Text 2)
M:But I want to go on that ride! I’m old enough. Do you have the restriction on the weight
W:No, but you need to stand next to that sign. If you are taller than it, you can go on the ride.
(Text 3)
M:I’m taking Dr. Robinson’s poetry class next semester.
W:Well, if you are expecting to have an easy time in his course, you are totally mistaken.
(Text 4)
M:Have you ever been on a sailing boat
W:Yes, it was very big and shiny. Why do you ask
M:Julie's dad is taking me out on his boat. I want to impress him but I don’t know what to wear.
(Text 5)
W:Have you stayed at our hotel before, sir
M:Yes, this is my second time. But I forgot what time the bars close.
W:The main bar closes at 10:00 p.m., but the small baron the third floor closes at midnight.
(Text 6)
M:Good morning and welcome to New York City. I hope your flight was OK.
W:It was just a bit boring. Before we leave the airport, I’d love to know where we will go this morning.
M:Of course. I’ll first take you around Central Park and Grand Central Terminal, and then we will go downtown where you will be served with lunch by a famous French chef!
W:Sounds amazing! But won't the trains and buses be so crowded to go downtown
M:Not a problem. We arranged a special car service for tourists to take us around so we won’t have to worry.
W:OK, let’s go. I’m so excited to see the city!
(Text 7)
W:Excuse me I’m sorry to bother you, but do you know where the Baxter Building is
M:Yes. If you head down this way, go straight down this street for four blocks, then in the fourth block turn right and you should see it in front of you.
W:Thank you. I’m late for an interview. This is my second time for a job interview. My phone battery died so I cannot see a map or call the company to tell them I’m running late.
M:In that case you'd better get a taxi instead of walking.
W:I tried signaling three but none were stopping for me.
M:I have ataxia pp on my phone. I’ll order you one.
W:You are so kind. Please, take some money to cover the cost.
M:That’s not necessary. I just hope you get the job!
(Text 8)
M:The sun has definitely come out today! I did not know it was going to be this bright. Otherwise, I would have worn my sunglasses. It is so good to relax in a park.
W:At least you brought a hat to shade your eyes. I brought nothing to protect myself from the sun. But I'm just glad I don't get sunburnt nearly as badly as you do.
M:It is because my ancestors were Scots. My face will be bright red after an hour of sitting in the sun.
W:If you are worried, we can move over to the shade.
M:Thanks, but this is a nice space. We have views over the city. It looks as though we might get some cloud cover soon.
W:Hopefully it won't rain. I forgot an umbrella, too.
M:If it does, we can go to that Italian restaurant.
W:I really wanted to just have a nice picnic with friends.
M:Did you bring some music
W:I did. It's alive recording from that concert we went to last month.
(Text 9)
W:Did you get your new schedule Let me see, I want to know if we are in some of the same classes.
M:Sure. Hey, look! We're both in CAPP together! I’m not sure what it is, but let's sit together.
W:It is called Career and Personal Planning. Every Grade 12 student has to take it.
M:Do you know what it's all about
W:It teaches us about the business world. You know, how to write a resume and how to find a job. It also helps us discover our strengths, weaknesses, and interests.
M:Oh, I see. So...since I am curious and like adventure, I might be a good reporter. What do you think is your best quality
W:I’d say...you can always count on me if you need something. And I always do what I say Pm going to do.
M:Great!
W:Ha-ha. We also have to volunteer at a job for one weekend. If you want, I can get you a job at my dad's athletic store.
M:I’d rather work with someone I know. My brother is building his house right now and he could use the help.
W:Anyway, it certainly won't be dull. At least it teaches us life skills.
M:I agree. I’m still trying to figure out why algebra is so important.
(Text 10)
This year's hot weather and record rainfall have given farmers an excellent year for growing crops. The rice production has been double what it was last year and it is exactly the same story for corn. Many fruit crops have also been outstanding, with some showing three times the quantity grown last year. However, farmers are puzzled as to why the apple crop has been less than last year, when oranges and peaches have done so well. As you would expect, most growers are very happy with this year's crops. The higher quantities mean they can supply all their customers in full and at the same time promise top quality. However, high production will bring prices down―which, of course, is good news for the customers but not so good for the growers. Still, with higher quantities being sold, it isn't expected that profits will be lower. Of course, it can be hard to predict the weather but growers are hoping that next year will bring similar conditions, allowing them to build on the advantages of this year's record harvest. Many of them are already laying aside land for extra crops.

One possible version:
Dear Miss White,
I’m Li Hua, deeply sorry for not being able to attend your lecture about English history next Monday afternoon. I’m writing to ask for a leave.
I am to participate in my final-round English Speech Contest on the same day, for which I have prepared for a long time. Personally, I’m desperate to achieve a preferable result. There is no doubt that the lecture about English history interests me most and I will try hard to makeup.
Would it be possible for me to have my classmates take notes for my later use.
Hoping to have your permission.
Yours Sincerely,
Li Hua

One possible version:
It was about 9:45 p.m. and the sound of the helicopter gradually softened in the distance. Bill guessed they wouldn’t be back until morning, so he decided to make a little sleeping mat from branches. He tried to go to sleep but couldn't fall asleep soon. He was very regretful because he’d taken too many short-cuts. Joanna, his wife, was probably terrified. He wanted to get up and power through the darkness, but he knew he’d only end up in more trouble.
The next morning, Bill had woken before dawn. He started to push his way through the woods. After a while, Bill came to a spot. Only a few hundred meters away from there was the line of trees he had been hoping to reach the night before. He knew the rescuers couldn't be too far away. At the same time, teams of rescuers were searching along the trail Bill had hiked. “Dad!” He suddenly heard a voice. “I’m up here,” he yelled back. “The whole family was extremely scared, especially Mom,” Bill's son said with teary eyes. Bill promised he wouldn’t go out hunting or hiking alone again.
