Making it to graduation isn't always easy. Grades slip, tuition bills get out of hand, and you might not always follow your school's rules. On Reddit's website AskReddit, former students told the stories of how they got dismissed from college.
“My GPA(Grade Point Average)dropped below the competitive level for the engineering school at my college. I was given the option of transferring (转学)to a different school or be dismissed. Well, thankfully I had a job from the previous summer that was willing to hire me on full time, so I quit school and went to work full time.” --Trebor
“I was dismissed in my fourth year of college.I've dealt with social anxiety since childhood and it came to a head in my third year when I was having panic attacks frequently. I got help and tried to get back on the horse after treatment, but by then it was too late for my grades. I was a fourth year computer science major who didn't know how to program.”--Tigers
“I went to college right after high school and didn't really have direction as to what I wanted to pursue for a career. I started to not care about school about three or four terms and stopped putting in effort. I decided I would rather work my job, drink with friends, and play my favorite video games. My grades suffered. My university finally gave me a warning and then dismissed me.” --Jiggity
“My father never paid the tuition that he said he did. I got kicked out of my dorm and barred from registering for the second term's classes due to outstanding debts. It was pretty embarrassing to explain to my roommate why there was a notice of eviction(迁出)taped to our dorm room door. She ended up having to lie for me when the campus police came to make sure all my stuff was moved out. She said some of it was hers since I had nowhere else for it to go.”--Theri
21.Who got dismissed from college for not working hard
A.Jiggity. B.Tigers. C.Trebor. D.Theri.

Catching fish as small as a coin would be an embarrassment for the average fisherman, but in Japan it's a source of pride, because in the old art of Tanago Fishing, the smaller the fish is, the bigger the catch it represents.
Most fishermen believe that the bigger the fish they catch, the greater their fishing skill is. That's why you usually see them posing only with very large fish and hear them telling tales about sea monsters that only just managed to escape from them. However, things are very different in Japan, a country where minimalism(极简主义)is popular in all aspects of life, from gardening to architecture. Fishing is no exception, so it's not very surprising that fishermen judge their skills not by how large their catch is, but by how small it is.
Tanago fishing is an ancient Japanese fishing method dating back over 200 years. Tanago is a Japanese term used to describe several species of a small freshwater fish we know as “bitterling”. Some species of Tanago grow up to 15cm in size, but these are less valuable to fishermen, as the goal is to catch the smallest fish possible. Tanago fishermen believe that the smaller the fish caught, the greater their fishing skill is.
To be honest, even in Japan, Tanago fishermen are considered odd, not only because of their unique way of judging their skill, but also because of the amount of time and resources they invest in this hobby. Catching tiny fish isn't easy, and many enthusiasts spend a great deal of money on specialized equipment.
Japanese bitterling are usually caught using a handmade bamboo fishing rod (杆)called Edo Wazao. There are only a handful of such fishing rod makers left in Japan, and the process of making such a tool can take up to two years, so they can be pretty expensive. Then there is the fine fishing line, and the needles, which are usually sharpened under a microscope, using a jeweler's diamond file (锉刀).
24.What can we learn about Tanago fishing from the passage
A.It is a way to catch big fish. B.It is an ancient Japanese life style.
C.It fishes for all sorts of freshwater fish. D.It aims to catch the smallest fish possible.

A.To explain their belief in fishing. B.To show their great fishing skills.
C.To emphasize their achievements. D.To clarify minimalism's popularity.
16.Why are Edo Wazao fishing rods so expensive
A.They are made by hand. B.They need a rare kind of bamboo.
C.They are time consuming. D.They cost some diamond to make them.
27.Which of the following might be a suitable title for the text
A.Minimalism:A Theory for Tango Fishing. B.Minimalism:A Unique Way Popular in Japan.
C.Tango Fishing:The Smaller,the Bigger. D.Tango Fishing:A Source of Japanese Spirit.

If you're ever lost in a remote European forest, you might be able to get your direction by finding a herd of roe deer. These animals like to line up roughly north-south, whether they're standing still or fleeing danger.
Roe deer are small and are common in Europe and Asia. Peter Obleser, of the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, and his colleagues studied the behavior of these animals that are easily frightened to look for evidence that they can sense the earth's magnet field.
Two men separately searched the Czech countryside for deer. Whenever an observer spotted a roe deer, he stopped and recorded how the deer was oriented. East-west Northwest-southeast Then he continued walking toward the animal. When it ran away, he recorded the direction it had run in.
The researchers were able to gather data on 188 deer. Of these, 115 deer were on their own. The rest were groups of two to five deer.
How the deer were standing when the researchers found them was not arbitrary and the deer were most likely to stand along a north-northeast by south-southwest axis(轴线). This tendency was stronger when deer were in a group than when they were alone. The time of day, season, wind, position of the sun, or type of habitat didn't affect how the animals were standing. So, the researchers concluded the roe deer can probably sense the earth's magnetic field, and line themselves up according to it.
As the observers got closer, the deer also tended to run away in either a north-northeast or south-southwest direction. If someone was approaching a deer's side rather than its head or tail, this meant the deer might run at an angle instead of straight away from the person.
But Obleser and his colleagues think their magnetic preferences might help roe deer anyway. If the deer in group all tend to run away in one direction, it could help the group stay together even when it's in a panic. There may be some sense to their survival.
28.What have researchers found about Roe deer
A.They have very good senses. B.They are animals that are difficult to catch.
C.They like to stand in a roughly fixed direction. D.They can help people avoid getting lost in the wild.
29.How did the researchers gather their data on roe deer
A.By observing and recording. B.By calculating and reasoning.
C.By comparing and analyzing. D.By experimenting and testing
30.From Paragraph 5 we can learn that Roe deer tend to__________.
A.approach another one from the side B.run in a straight line away from the enemy
C.be stronger in choice of direction when in a group D.change their standing position according to the time of day
31.What do researchers think about Roe deer running away in a fixed direction
A.It doesn't make any sense. B.It might be helpful for them.
C.It is a very bad idea for them. D.It must be very dangerous for them.
D
Researchers have found that people who feel undervalued or ignored in a relationship are likely to buy a brand that is the opposite to what their partner would choose, in a small unconscious struggle for control.
As an example, a woman might be annoyed at being left to do the washing up again, but feel unable to speak out in case it causes a quarrel. Later she might go out and buy a Diet Pepsi instead of her usual choice, Diet Coke because she knows her partner prefers the Coca-Coladrink, say the researchers from the University of New Hampshire.
“By unconsciously choosing the opposite brand their partner prefers, people might feel better without realizing it,” said lead researcher Dr Danielle Brick assistant professor of marketing at the Peter T.Paul College of Business and Economics at New Hampshire. “We found that consumers are using brand choice as a form of behavior to deal with conflict inrelationships.”
In one study, nearly 300 participants were tested for relationship power--defined as how much control they had in the relationship--before answering questions about their partners preferred brand choices in six categories, including coffee, toothpaste and shoes.
They were then tricked by being told they were taking part in a task related to letters. In fact they were subconsciously linking their partners' names to words that caused negative thoughts.
Finally, the volunteers were asked to choose what brands they preferred in the same six categories. Partners who felt frustrated were more likely to select brands that were the opposite of what their partners preferred--known in marketing as “oppositional brand choices”.
“We found some evidence to suggest that making oppositional brand choices can reduce relationship frustration. The findings, published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology, have implications for marketing,” said the researchers. “Marketers assume consumers are making conscious, careful choices, but actually there are other factors sometimes even outside of their conscious awareness that are influencing their decisions,” Dr Brick added.
32.What might people do if they don't feel valued in a relationship
A.Eat food which is not 'liked by others. B.Do the washing without having a word.
C.Buy brands which their partner doesn't like. D.Purchase more food than usual in the market.
33.Why does the author give the example of a woman in Paragraph 2
A.To introduce the topic. B.To better illustrate the topic
C.To give background information. D.To make the text more informative.
34.How were the participants tricked in the study
A.They were made to repeat some worthless words.
B.They were told that they were ignored in the relationship.
C.They linked partners' names to bad things without awareness.
D.They made some choices between brands they liked and disliked.
35.What do the findings imply for marketing
A.Consumers make choices at will. B.It's easy to trick consumers into making choices.
C.Frustration can increase market sales. D.Better strategies can be made to sell goods.

There's almost no worse thing for pet parents than when a beloved baby goes missing. This is just what happened to Neesha in January.
Neesha, an eight-year-old Golden Retriever(金毛寻回犬), was taken for some outdoor exercise in Ireland's Wicklow Mountains by her owners, with their other dog, a German Shepherd(德国牧羊犬)named Harley. Frightened by a deer, both dogs ran away. Harley found his way back to the parking lot the next day, but Neesha did not.
The family made a thorough search. They left a laundry basket of unwashed clothes near the spot they had last seen Neesha in the hope that she would go back home when she caught the familiar smell. They even turned to drones (无人机) and the Internet for help in finding Neesha. By going on social media and posting about it, they got a lot of attention from netizens. But a week later, there was still no sign of Neesha. They were still looking for her and starting to give up hope.
Eventually, the family began to accept that Neesha might not be coming home. They said, “We thought she was-eight and it had been two weeks; there was no way she could survive that.” If Neesha could be found alive, it would be a miracle.
At the same time, as truly devoted hikers, Nolan and Bonnet, braved the elements on the freezing day, they decided to climb to the top of one of Wicklow's highest peaks. As they neared the top, Nolan was shocked to see a dog trembling in the snow, curled up next to some rocks.
