My cousin Douglas’ parents were going to teach in Africa, but they thought it might be better for him to stay in this country to go to school, so he would come to stay with my family for a year.
Douglas and his family lived all the way on the other side of the country, so we had never had a chance to visit. He was just someone I sent birthday cards to and saw in photos. Now he was going to stay and go to school with me.
We went to pick him up at the airport. He was standing all alone, looking around for someone to meet him. Everyone in my family has light brown hair and green eyes, but Douglas has dark hair and dark eyes. He started to smile shyly after Mother hugged him.
When we got back home and Douglas started putting his things away, I could not believe it. All of his clothes were the same, all white shirts and dark blue shorts. He even had a dark blue jacket with a tie! “How come you wear only one kind of clothes ”I asked him.
“That’s the way my school has always been,” he said. “We have to wear uniforms.”
“Yuck,” I said. “I would hate having to wear the same thing every day. You’re going to look pretty weird if you come to school in a jacket and tie.”
Douglas looked worried. Suddenly, I felt bad. I didn’t mean to hurt his feelings. After all, it was not easy to come all this way to live with some strange family for a year. Then and there I decided that I was going to look after my cousin and try to make this year as good as possible for him.

Tim Linhart is an American. He worked as an ice sculptor (雕刻家) for many years. In the late 1990s, he went to Sweden to create some sculptures for an ice hotel. While there, he met his future wife and decided to stay.
In 1998, Tim began sculpting a violin from ice. It was so large that he had to use strings (弦) from a piano. He tried playing the violin when it was finished, and was so excited by the beautiful sound it made. He ran to tell his friends. They all thought he was crazy!
However, Tim knew that he had to create more. He uses white ice which is a mixture of snow and water. It takes him about five to six days to sculpt something like a violin.
It was not long before Tim had made enough different instruments( 乐器) to create his own orchestra (管弦乐队). It includes violins, guitars, drums, etc. To make sure the instruments do not melt (融化), the orchestra has to perform in a cold environment. Many members of the orchestra wear gloves while they are playing. Some of them do not, as it is hard to play an instrument like the violin with gloves on!
During one of the orchestra’s first concerts, they found that the listeners increased the room temperature. This was because of human body heat and breath. Some instruments began to melt. The concert was not a success. Tim decided to build his own concert hall. The temperature there is able to remain at - 5℃ throughout the concert.
Tim’s orchestra now performs every year, not only in Sweden but also in the USA and Italy.

A. In Paragraph 3. B. In Paragraph 4. C. In Paragraph 5.
( )60. Why did the writer write the passage
A. To introduce a creative sculptor and his “ice music”.
B. To encourage readers to try Tim’s instruments.
