After I made it to the city center, I started to feel it might be easy for a foreigner to deal with the great size of Beijing. With growing confidence, I decided to take the subway to the hotel, not realizing that the network didn’t go that far. Impressed with the cleanliness of the station, I bought a ticket and boarded the first subway that came along.
After a few minutes I asked in English a young man seated next to me where I should get off closest to the Friendship Hotel. Wearing a smart business suit and tie, he would surely speak English, wouldn’t he Unfortunately, he couldn’t understand me but seemed very friendly. I showed him the room card with all the information of the Friendship Hotel in Chinese characters (汉字). He looked at it, and then his eyes moved quickly to the carriage (车厢) subway map. Next, he raised three fingers of his right hand.
In Australia, raising fingers at someone is not usually nice, but this man wasn’t smiling. At the next station he showed me two fingers. Now in Australia, that’s really rude, but I got the message. When we stopped at the third station, he didn’t just point to the door, but got up, took me out of the train, and led me to the top of the stairs, and out onto the street. Then he stopped a taxi and told the driver where to take me.
All this came from a man who couldn’t speak my language, and I couldn’t speak his. I was now speechless, especially when he refused my offer of money. I felt a little embarrassed having even thought he would accept a tip.
This experience made it clear I had to learn some Chinese quickly or my adventures might start turning into misadventures.

A. he believed in his ability to deal with the trip
B. the network covered most of the stops

A. still remained puzzled

A. Helpful. B. Rude. C. Warm-hearted. D. Caring.
27. The author’s purpose of writing this passage is mainly to ______.
A. prove the importance of being careful

It can be incredibly difficult to encourage ourselves to go for a run during winter, particularly when it's wet and windy outside. But new research has found that even a super-quick run could have great health benefits. In fact, it seems just a 10-minute session will not only make us feel better, but could actually improve brain health, too. Now, we all know that exercise can improve mental and physical health in many ways.
But when it comes to mental wellbeing, there's been relatively little research done on the specific benefits of running, compared with other physical activities, such as cycling. So this was something put to the test during a recent study. Researchers from University of Tsukuba in Japan asked participants to run on a treadmill (跑步机) for just 10 minutes. They then had to take a Stroop Color and Word Test which is used to measure reaction times in brain processing. Results showed there was a highest point in self-reported pleasure and an increase in degree of activity of the brain.
In other words, runners were found to have an increase in blood flow in the part of the brain that's associated with dealing with functions and controlling mood (情绪). Researchers then compared these results to a similar study on cycling, which also showed improved cognition(认知), but no mood improvement. Therefore, it seems various types of exercise can make us feel differently.
The authors noted, "Given exercise is medicine, the effects of drugs differ depending on the type of drug, different types of exercise such as running and cycling should be observed to have different effects on mental health and brain functions as well.''
So pushing ourselves to get outside for a run really will make us feel better, potentially more than other fitness activities. And these findings show that we don't necessarily need to do a lot of exercise to feel the benefit of it.
28.What did the new research find
A. Running fast benefits all of us. B. Running is the best exercise.
C. A short time run can be beneficial. D. A healthy mind encourages us to run.
29.How did the researchers get the result
A. By using different drugs.
B. By taking some word tests.
C. By collecting the former information.
D. By doing experiments and comparisons.
30.Which is related to our happiness
A. Cycling. B. Medicine. C. Blood flow. D. Colors.
31.What is the main idea of the text
A. We should go for a run in winter.
B. Running benefits us physically and mentally.
C. We don't need a lot of exercise.
D. Running on a treadmill is better than running outside.
D
What could be perfect for the partner, who embarrasses you on the dance floor Smart socks, which can teach people to dance, may be the answer for anyone with two left feet.
Initially, the socks have been developed as a running tool to help runners improve their skills. Thanks to the socks, users can accurately record not only how far and fast they run but also how well. It means the user maximizes their performance, and reduces damage to body and prevents hurt. The hi-tech socks are made of special fibers that watch the movements of your feet. They look, feel and can be washed like normal clothes.
Sensors record each movement and send it by an ankle transmitter (脚踝发射器) to a smart phone. Then a “virtual coach” application shows the information and can tell the user what they are doing wrong, and help to improve skill in any task with feet.
The socks should be useful to athletes and weekend joggers. “People think running is so easy and of course everybody can do it but not necessarily safely and well,” Dr Davide Vigano said. A recent study showed that between 60 and 80 percent of runners got hurt per year. This is petty much more than any other human activity. Researchers say the technology can also be developed to teach people how to dance, play sports such as golf, or even to help to teach women to walk better in high heels.
Mr. Vigano said, “People could all benefit from the idea. We have had interest from all sorts of sports, like skiing, football, cycling and golf. Anything where you have to use your feet can use it. It could even be put in high heels to help women walk in them safely.”
Socks are just the start, and the technology could be used in gloves, hats and boots. The socks, anklet and software package, are expected to be sold for around 120, which will go on sale in March.
32. What does the underlined part “anyone with two left feet” refer to in paragraph 1
A. People who are disabled. B. People who are poor at dancing.
C. People who are good at dancing. D. People who do not like dancing.
33. Why were smart socks developed in the beginning
A. To improve runners’ performance. B. To teach people to dance.
C. To help women walk safely. D. To record dance movement.
34. What’s special about fibers that the socks are made of
A. They feel much softer than normal clothes.
B. They can monitor the movement of feet.
C. They should be washed in a special washing machine.
D. They are expensive to produce.
35. What can be inferred from the text
A. Only professional athletes can benefit from the technology.
B. The technology has been widely used in all sorts of sports.
C. All people can run safely and well thanks to the socks.
D. The technology could bring a potential market.

An Unforgivable Mistake
A few years ago, the company I work for sent my wife and me to live in New York for a year. I've always loved jogging, so I was really happy when I found the apartment they had rented for us was next to Central Park. This meant that every morning I could go for a run before I went to work.
Because a lot of people had told me to be careful of muggers(行凶抢劫者)in the park, I didn't usually take anything with me. How could they rob me if I didn't have anything But one morning my wife asked me to buy some bread on the way home, so I put a $ 10 bill in my back pocket.
It was a beautiful morning and the park was quiet with very few people walking or jogging around. While I was running, another jogger bumped(撞) into me. He apologized and continued running. For a while, I didn't think too much of it. However, when I noticed the wide path where I was running, I thought it was kind of strange. The warning of muggers in the park occurred to me. He could have been a mugger! I suddenly became alarmed, so I checked my pocket. The money was missing! I immediately started to run after the jogger. I finally caught up with him and grabbed him firmly by the arm. I started shouting and demanding that he give me the $ 10bill. I'm not usually a hot-headed person, but I really lost my temper at that moment. I couldn't believe the robbery was actually happening to me. Filled with anger, I shook my fist at him. This seemed to frighten him. He quickly put his hand in his pocket and gave me the money. Then he ran away as fast as he could.
I bought the bread and went home. As soon as I got home, I couldn't wait to tell my wife the story." You won't believe what happened to me," I started with pride. She immediately interrupted(插话),"I know, you left the money for the bread on the kitchen table."

20. 答案:B
解析:W: Many animals recognize their food because they see it. So do humans. We can also use other senses when we choose our food. Although there are many different types of food, some animals eat only one type. The panda eats only one particular type of bamboo. Other animals eat only one type of food even when given the choice. A kind of white butterfly will stay on the leaves of a sort of cabbage, even though there are plenty of other vegetables in the garden. However, most animals have more varied diets. Bears eat fruit and fish. Foxes eat birds and fruit. Diets of these animals are different depending on the season. Humans have a very varied diet. We often eat food because we like it and not because it is good for us. In countries such as France and Britain, people eat food with too much sugar. This is bad for their health. Eating too much meat and animal products, such as butter, can also be bad for the health. Choosing the right food, therefore, has become an area of study in modern life.

第一节
答案:
Hello, everyone! I’m happy to introduce myself to you. My English name is Lisa. I’m sixteen years old. There are three people in my family, and just like most of you, I’m the only child, which is very common in Chinese families. My father works in a hospital and my mother is an English teacher in a primary school. We love each other dearly.
Besides my courses, I have various hobbies, such as reading, drawing and swimming. In my spare time, I have also collected a lot of stamps, which are very precious now because we seldom post a letter nowadays.
In a word, I’m pleased to be one of you and I sincerely hope that we can become good friends in our daily life.
第二节
答案:
Paragraph 1:
Looking at the money on the table, I stood there, shocked. For the rest of the day, I felt extremely guilty, with the innocent jogger and his helplessness on my mind. "How could I be so rude to him without knowing the truth What if I waited for him to explain " I thought. I decided to find a chance to apologize to him. The next morning, I got up and went to the park as usual, but not for jogging. I just hung around where I met that jogger in the hope of meeting him, but in vain.
Paragraph 2:
For several days, I waited at the same place. But to my disappointment, he didn't turn up. It was almost a week before I finally saw him again. I, the "mugger", gave the $ 10 bill back to him and said sorry to him again and again. Fortunately, he forgave me for what I had done to him. Many years have passed, but I can still feel my cheeks burning with shame. From the experience I have learned that it is too early to judge a person before you know the truth.
