Although it’s said Van Gogh(梵高)(1853-1890) sold only one painting during hislifetime, different theories(理论) exist(存在).
It is true that The Red Vineyard is the only painting sold during Van Gogh’s lifetime, andthat was officially(官方地) recorded and accepted by the art world. The same is in daily life. If you are looked at for more than necessary; you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry toward others' stare at you that way.
Looking too long at someone may seem to be impolite and even rude. But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex. If a man stares at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to tum his eyes away from the woman, his purpose is clear. That is, he wishes to catch her eye, to make her understand that she is quite to his taste.
However, the normal eye contact for two people during conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time; in order to make sure that the listener is paying attention to what the speaker is speaking.
If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking, as if he tries to control you, you will feel uncomfortable. A poor liar(说谎者) usually looks too long at the victim, because he believes that looking straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication.
