I grew up in New Hampshire, a small town in South Canada, where in my father’s words the seasons were “Spring, Summer, Fairtime and Winter!”At that time, a week-long fair was held in the town every autumn. Thousands of people from other towns came to sell and buy things. It was the busiest time of the year.
When “Fairtime” came, my grandma became the most “useful” and busiest person of the family. Grandma was a kind, well-educated old lady. She was good at cooking. All her relatives liked the food she cooked. During “fairtime”, they would come to live in her house and have meals there. Grandma was always happy to look after them.
Year after year, many people moved to big cities. There was no longer “Fairtime”. Grandma became very old and was gradually going blind. My parents and I moved to live with Grandma in her house. We did our best to make her day-to-day life as comfortable as possible. I was at high school then. What I often did at home was to help Grandma with the daily newspaper’s crossword puzzle. However, she didn’t look happy. She often sat in her room for hours, without saying a word.
To attract people to move back, the Town Hall decided to reopen the Fair. One day, when I came back from school, I saw Grandma wearing her glasses, washing the dishes in the kitchen. With a big smile on her face, she looked a lot much younger. She told me that her two nieces would come. “They said the food I cooked was very delicious and they want to stay in my house again.” Grandma said happily. “They will stay here for one week and we can have a big party. That must be the busiest week I’ve had in years!”
I suddenly realized that Grandma didn’t want to be looked after. She wanted to be “useful”, appreciated and helpful.

A.To learn to cook. B.To have a big party.

Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son. Suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents. “The door to his room is always shut,” Joanna noted.
Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter. “She used to cuddle up (依 偎) against me on the sofa and talk,” said Mark. “Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is understanding which time is which.”
Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what’s on their mind. “In fact, parents are first on the list,” said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers. “This completely changes during the teen years,” Riera explained. “They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last.”
Parents who know what’s going on in their teenagers’ lives are in the best position to help them. To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental (思想的) break, for children also need freedom, though young. Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them.
(32)What does “The door to his room is always shut” in Paragraph 1 suggest
A.The boy begins to dislike his parents.
B.The boy keeps himself away from his parents.
C.The boy is always busy with his study.
D.The boy doesn’t want to be ignored.
(33)What troubles Tina and Mark
A.They can’t read their daughter’s mind exactly.
B.Their daughter isn’t as lovely as before.
C.They don’t know what to say to their daughter.
D.Their daughter talks with them only when she needs help.
(34)Which of the following best explains “the wall of silence” in the last paragraph
A.Teenagers talk a lot with their friends.
B.Teenagers do not talk much with their parents.
C.Teenagers talk little about their own lives.
D.Teenagers do not understand their parents.
(35)What can we learn from the passage
A.Parents shouldn’t be angry with teenagers.
B.Parents have to talk with children face to face.
C.Parents are unhappy with their growing children.
D.Parents should try to understand their teenagers.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
In 1989, fresh out of high school, I had the difficult task of choosing a career path before college started in three months. In those days in Pakistan, there were limited options (选择): becoming a doctor or an engineer, or entering the financial world after getting a business degree. I wasn’t interested in engineering, so I was left with medicine or business. I couldn’t decide.
My uncle, an influential person in the family, suggested that I do a work placement to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital. After that, I could make a decision.
It seemed like a brilliant idea. I was accepted for a month’s placement at a foreign bank in Karachi. I got a feel for how the world of finance functioned, made new friends, and generally enjoyed the mostly easy-going work surroundings.
The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience couldn’t have been more different. The hospital had an intense (紧张的) environment. The days started early (at 7 am, compared to 9 am at the bank), and were heavy with endless duties. And the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again the next day.
I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere (氛 围), better working hours and less stress. The hospital was full of excitement and unpredictability, but the studying and training was difficult. It seemed that the business option was going to win out.
Near the end of my month at the hospital, I was driving home after an especially busy night call. In front of me was a public bus, with college students sitting on the top. As the driver weaved through (穿梭) traffic, I could see the boys shaking from side to side.
续写词数应为 150 左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus.________________________________________________
The next day, when I went to hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces.________________________________南充市重点中学2023-2024学年高一上学期10月月考

Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus. He hit the road face down and rolled over. He lay motionless in the middle of the road as the bus drove away quickly. The cars directly behind the bus braked to avoid the boy, but none stopped. I knew that if the boy was bleeding into his brain, he would die soon. I stopped my car. I lifted his unconscious body into my car with the help of some passers-by, and then raced back to the hospital. Since I wasn’t allowed into the operation room, I drove home.
The next day, when I went to hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. The mother held my hands and started weeping. “Son, you are an angel,” she repeated over and over again. After comforting her, I went over to the boy. He managed to smile and squeezed my hand. No words were spoken between us — none were needed. I spent the rest of the day in a state of excitement, the most fabulous mood I had ever experienced. I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

W: Jonas, did you grow up in a city or in a country
M: In a country. (8) The population of my town is between 100 and 200 people.
W: Wow, what’s it like growing up in the country
M: It’s very different. I can remember when I was a kid, I never watched TV. My brother and I never chose what to eat.
(9) We never really knew about, you know, junk food until we were quite older.

M: Alisa, tell me about your father. What’s your father like
W: My father is pretty much the most interesting person I ever know. He tells all different kinds of stories about his childhood, and his growing up.
M: Did he grow up in Canada
W: No, (10) he grew up in Liverpool, in England.
M: OK, nice, and what does your father do
W: Ah, (11) he was a pilot until five years ago. It was kind of tragic, (12) but he had a heart attack and he wasn’t allowed to fly anymore.
M: Oh, I’m sorry.
W: It ’s fine. He makes.... He is pretty much happier now, I guess.
M: OK, so he’s OK after the heart attack.
W: He’s fine, yeah.

M: I’m Ruby. Nice to meet you.
W: Me too. I’m Jessica. (13) Are you a new student here
M: Yes, I just moved here from Germany. I’m still trying to find my way around. In fact, I am lost right now! I’m looking for the football practice for the boys’ team.
W: Well, (14) they usually practice on the west fields. The east fields are for the girls’ team. But the boys don’t have their first practice until next week.
M: Oh, great! I was so worried that it was too late to sign up.
W: No, you’ve got plenty of time. The coach for the boys’ team is Mr. Harper, the math teacher. You should go talk to him if you want to join the team.
M: I’ll go do that right now! Oh, uh...
W: Oh, right! You don’t know where his room is! (15) Here, I’ve got a few minutes before practice starts. (16) I’ll show you where to find him.

On Tuesday night, (17) two Air France flights, one from Los Angeles and the other from Washington D.C., made emergency landings. A phone call warned of bombs on board. No bombs were found. But the trips to Paris were delayed for many hours.
In Washington, D.C. during Tuesday evening’s rush hour, a train to Virginia was delayed. A suspicious package was found in it. It turned out to be nothing dangerous. Just “your normal everyday package” someone planned to mail. But (18) the train was stopped for nearly an hour while the package was examined. The Paris attacks killed 129 and injured more than 300. Often after a violent attack, it is difficult for some people to move on with their daily lives. (19) For a while, people will be less willing to use public transportation, to fly or be in large crowds. People riding subways in Washington D.C., New York City and San Francisco have noticed more armed police officers. Some schools delayed or canceled planned student trips. (20) Several news reports said some flights and trains to Paris in recent days were less than half full.
