When baby turtles first come out of eggs, they head for the sea by nature. The beach surface goes down, which is one directional clue they follow Another is the light:The horizon(地平线)over the sea is brighter than the horizon over land.
But lights from towns and beach developments can puzzle the baby turtles. The sky shining above a city can mislead them. And particularly bright lights can draw them away from the sea You’d think the extra time for crawling(爬行)might wear out baby turtles, which need energy once they get in the water to swim for about a day to get to their destination in the sea. In a normal trip from nests to waves, the babies build up chemicals that show they have been pushing themselves.
Some researchers took the baby turtles to a lab where they ran on a treadmill and swam in a tank while their blood and breathing were monitored. The finding was surprising even after hours of crawling the turtles were fine and swam as well as turtles that didn’t have an extra crawling period.
The reason is that they often stop while crawling if they are doing u for a long time, unlike the disturbed trip they make when heading straight for the water. So misled turtles are not worn out.
But the misleading lights are still a problem for the babies. The longer time they spend on the beach wandering, the more they are exposed to natural enemies. They can also end up losing their lives in the heat of the sun.
4. What attracts the baby turtles away from the sea

B. Vast beaches.

7.What may happen to the baby turtles exposed to misleading lights
A. They may face danger.
B. They may avoid their natural enemies.
C. They may wander on the beach for a while.
D. They are more likely to find the destination.

China is showing the world its great resolve in the global climate campaign with concrete and self-motivated efforts as well as serious commitment.
At the opening ceremony of the Paris climate summit,Chinese President Xi Jinping restated Chinas plan made in June to cut its carbon emissions(排放物)per unit of GDP by6065 percent from 2005 levels by 2030,and increase non-fossil fuel sources in primary energy consumption to about 20 percent.
With a large population,China is facing increasing resource limits, severe environmental pollution and a worsening ecosystem, and its citizens are also becoming Increasingly aware of environmental problems. Suffering environmental problems and regarding the efforts to transform its economic growth pattern as important, the country has much at risk if climate change is left unattended.
Actually, climate change efforts are already included in Chinas medium-and long-term program of economic and social development, and ecological efforts are the clear characteristics in China’s 13th Five-Year Plan (2016--2020).
Although it is and will be a developing country for a long time to come. China has been actively involved in the global campaign against climate change, now topping the world in terms of energy conservation and the use of new and renewable energy.
However, Chinas development rights need to be respected. It is unfair to overstress Chinas status as one of the world’s largest greenhouse gas emitters and regard it as the major part of responsibilities in the global fight against climate change.
It is worthy of notice that Chinas emissions of greenhouse gases per person are far lower than those of developed countries, especially the United States although rapid economic expansion and its population base have made it one of the biggest producers of the gases.
To show its great resolve, Beijing in September also announced the establishment of an independent South-South Climate Cooperation Fund of 20 billion RMB to help developing countries affected by global warming.
While China is eagerly accomplishing its policy commitment, developed countries should stop questioning Chinas commitment to fighting climate change and pointing the finger, and start shouldering their due responsibilities instead.
12. China fights against climate change in order to __________.
A. top the world
B. transform its economic growth pattern
C. solve its population problem
D. respond to pressure from developed countries
13. The underlined word "it" in Paragraph 7 refers to __________.
A. China
B. the United States
C. economic expansion
D. the population base
14. It can be inferred from the text that _____________.
A. China will completely use non-fossil fuels by 2030
B. China will carry out its plan by stopping its development
C. Chinese emit more greenhouse gases than Americans on average
D. some developed countries are not taking on their due responsibilities
15. Which of the following is a sign of China’s self-motivated fight against climate change
A. Expanding its economy.
B. Using non-renewable energy.
C. Making it part of China’s 13th Five-Year Plan.
D. Donating money to developing countries.
